Poultry Grader - Moorefield, West Virginia (Hourly/No Benefits) #W0069
Hourly Position/No Benefits Training Provided Position located in Moorefield, West Virginia. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a part-time (split) day/night shift Poultry Grader for Moorefield, WV (Hardy County) and surrounding areas to perform technical grading and inspections on poultry/poultry products to determine appropriate USDA grades.
This position requires work in rotating shifts and locations, including Rockingham County, VA (occasionally overnight). Day, evening, weekend and holiday work may be required depending on plant and staffing needs. Duties include monitoring commercial and government specifications to ensure plant compliance with formulation and processing standards as specified by various processing contracts; ensuring maintenance of sanitation standards; training and monitoring the work of authorized plant graders; and signing off on all documentation that pertains to grading and inspection functions.
Knowledge of agricultural practices is beneficial particularly if related to the poultry industry; however if you have the ability to be trained on federal/state regulations and are able to meet the conditions of employment as noted below then this knowledge is not specifically necessary as training will be provided. Other qualifications include basic computer proficiency and excellent teamwork and customer service skills along with the ability to communicate effectively with others; read and apply USDA/State manuals; work with minimal supervision; and monitor plant personnel.
Dependability and attention to details are also a must. H.S. Diploma/GED required.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must have or be able to obtain USDA Poultry Grading License for grading poultry/poultry products as issued by the USDA after completing a minimum of 120 hours of supervised training. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position which includes working in an environment that has rapid temperature changes, wet and slippery floors, high noise levels, and would require lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Must be available to temporarily work in different plants in emergency situations and meet the physical demands of the position. Must have (or be eligible for) and maintain a valid driver's license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety. The final candidate must be eligible to meet the Federal Office of Field Operations Assignment Restrictions Directive (FSIS Directive 4735.9) regarding assignment restrictions and family or personal relationships as well as the one-year restriction for candidates who previously worked for a business under FSIS inspection.
Training/coursework in poultry science, agriculture or related field is preferred along with work experience related to USDA Poultry Grading Regulations & Standards. An equivalent combination of training & experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
Final candidate must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check. This is an hourly position limited to 1500 hours per year and does not include state benefits. This position is paid for with non-general funds generated by assessing user fees for grading services requested by industry.

Motor Grader Operator will be responsible to grade excavation and embankment and lay asphalt, base and other materials. The Motor Grader Operator may blade haul roads and other general work. In addition to the rough work responsibilities, the Motor Grader Operator will also performs finish grade work to blue tops or other close specification control.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the Operator is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear, smell or taste.
The Operator is required to kneel, crouch or stoop, climb ladders, bend at the waist, squat, and crawl in tight or confined spaces to perform the essential functions. The Operator must regularly lift and /or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
