We are seeking a senior GNC engineer with subject matter expertise in store separation testing, characterization, simulation modeling, analysis, and the aircraft store certification process.

Job Description: This is a senior technical expert position within the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Center performing air vehicle store separation modeling, wind tunnel testing, and flight test support. The role often requires acting independently to perform simulation analysis, develop aerodynamic flow field force and moment models, plan and execute CFD analysis, plan/execute/support wind tunnel and flight tests.

The Senior Store Separation Engineer will guide the successful completion of major program efforts and support technical leadership. The individual will represent the organization as an expert within the field of store separation and flow field modeling, while interacting with senior leadership to plan and execute programs to accomplish long-term objectives. U.S.

Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment. Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions): · Develop flow field models for stores released from a host aircraft · Plan and coordinate CFD · Plan and execute wind tunnel tests · Develop flow field models based on wind tunnel test data, CFD, empirical methods, and flight test data · Develop flight clearance plans based on aircraft launch envelopes for safe separation and mission effectiveness · Analyze air vehicle performance in both simulation and flight tests · Work with AFSEO, NAVAIR, aircraft manufacturer, customer program offices and/or other entities in support of aircraft store certification Required Education (including Major): B.S. from an ABET accredited institution in one of the following: Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.

  • 10 years of experience (as described below) or M.S. in the above + 8 years of experience or Ph.D. in the above +6 years of experience Required Skills and Experience: · Strong understanding of store/weapon integration on launch aircraft including ten (10) years of experience working with aircraft certification requirements with organizations such as AFSEO and NAVAIR, range safety, customer program offices · Eight (8) years of experience and expertise in store separation and flow field modeling; ability to independently develop 6DOF flow field models; experience working with controls and simulation engineers to properly integrate flow field models. · Six (6) years of experience leading a team in the planning and execution of flow field wind tunnel tests including grid runs, captive trajectory systems, and attached-store loads testing · Strong understanding of basic aerodynamic principles of an aircraft and/or missile · Familiarity with store release apparatus such as launch rails, bomb racks, rotary launchers, and ejectors for both external and internal carriage systems · Six (6) years of experience with flight testing; ability to design an envelope clearance test plan, reduce the data, and validate the 6DOF flow field models · At least eight (8) years of experience with Matlab, FORTRAN, and/or C/C++ Other Requirements: · Must have an existing or the ability to obtain a Department of Defense issued Secret Security clearance. This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance.

    Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.

    Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens. · Must be willing to relocate to Tucson, AZ (comprehensive relocation package available) · U.S.

Areas of responsibility for the group include analytical design modeling of airfoils, main rotor blades, tail rotor blades and propellers, as well as the modeling of other aircraft external features such as aerodynamic fairings, airspeed probes and other externally mounted equipment. The candidate will also be required to interface with a cross-functional group of Experimental Aeromechanics; Dynamics; Handling Qualities; Airframe and Dynamic Systems (Blades, Rotors). 5+ years of experience in Aerospace industry and US citizenship is required for this position. Perform aerodynamic analysis using preliminary design and detailed design analysis tools ANSYS Fluent and CD-adapco STAR-CCM+ Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) 3-D modeling Documentation and review of analyses Above work shall be performed in accordance with Sikorsky Standard Work procedures.
