There is currently one vacancy for a temporary position on the East Counties Sign & Paint Crew (Agate), which is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and removal of pavement markings and signage along the State highway and roadway system. Temporary positions last up to 9 months and do not receive benefits. The hourly wage for this position is $18.63.

The anticipated work schedule for this position is 10 hour days, 4 days per week during the summer and 8 hour days, 5 days per week during the winter. During the extended summer months this position requires frequent out-of-town travel throughout the Region from Monday through Thursday each week. When traveling overnight, CDOT pays for the hotel and employees receive a per diem amount to pay for meals.

Description of Job

Do you like to be challenged, to learn new skills and do you want to be able to handle any situation that the traveling public and the Colorado weather can put in front of you? Transportation Maintenance I (TM I) positions do more than drive big trucks!

CDOT is responsible for taking care of the state highway and roadway systems through landscape, heavy construction, installing and maintaining highway signs and markings, as well as operating specialized snow removal equipment. As a TM I employee, you will receive training on specialized equipment such as loaders, highway painting and marking equipment, motor graders, 2+ ton snow blowers, and using wing attachments to remove snow and maintain the roads and CDOT right-of-way.

This right-of-way is more than the asphalt you drive on – it encompasses the land on both sides of the road and any medians – so daily work can include maintaining the landscape, highways signs, highway markings, culverts, delineators, road shoulders, rock slide areas, runaway truck ramps, and more.

During the extended summer months (approximately May – September), TM I employees typically work 10 hours a day Monday – Thursday, with a three day weekend.

Major Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Heavy Construction/Physical Labor:

  • Install, maintain, and remove pavement markings, striping, and traffic signage along the State highway and roadway system;

  • Haul and spread sand, gravel, concrete, asphalt and clay to fill washouts, roadway cracks and repair road shoulders;

  • Inspect, clean, and repair drainage systems, bridges, tunnels, and other structures;

  • Install and/or repair guardrails, road shoulders, berms, highway markers, warning signals, and highway lighting, using hand tools and power tools;

  • Remove litter, hazardous objects and debris from roadways, such as rock, mud and/or deceased animals;

  • Cut grass, dig ditches, empty litter barrels, pick up trash;

  • Respond to emergencies by following prescribed procedures such as stopping or slowing traffic, operating emergency vehicles, etc.;

  • Set out signs and cones for "traffic control safe zones" around work areas to divert traffic;

  • Graffiti control, sand blasting, remove paint over walls, bridges and signs and using pressure washers, airless paint sprayers;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Heavy Equipment Operation:

  • Drive single or double axle trucks or tractors with adjustable attachments to sweep debris from paved surfaces, mow grass and weeds;

  • Minor maintenance and repair of equipment;

  • Snow plow and ice removal at all hours to keep roadways clear and safe;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to load noise

  • Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes and skin

  • Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment as appropriate

  • Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products

  • Some equipment requires the use of respirators

  • Work in close proximity to heavy traffic

  • Use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10 – 20'

  • Required to drive CDOT vehicles

  • Required to work different, changing shifts such as nights and weekends

  • Frequently responds to emergencies outsider regular work hours and may work overtime including weekends and holidays

Must be willing and be physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions, and at varying elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes; AND

  • Eighteen (18) months in heavy construction/physical labor experience AND six (6) months heavy equipment operation experience;

  • OR eighteen (18) months heavy equipment operation experience AND six (6) months heavy construction/physical labor experience;

Examples of heavy equipment operation experience: Operating single axle dump truck, tandem axle dump truck, front-end loader (3 yards or larger), bulldozer, backhoe, road grader, paving equipment, 15' mower tractors, or farm/ranch equipment such as tractors or combines.

Examples of heavy construction/physical labor experience: Bricklayer, construction laborer, plasterer, rancher/farmer or concrete finisher.

Necessary Special Requirements: The following conditions must be met and maintained in order to be employed and to continue employment at CDOT in this position, unless exempted by the Maintenance Superintendent or Traffic Program Engineer.

  • May be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e. drug test), and DOT physical through our medical provider.

  • Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays.

  • Must provide the supervisor with a telephone number where you can be reached for the purposes of responding to an emergency.

  • May be required to live within twenty (20) miles of where the work station and/or equipment is located. This is necessary in order to report for emergency work within thirty (30) minutes' driving time under adverse weather conditions, after notified to report to work. Knowledge of an emergency or hazardous condition may be considered to be notification to report to work station.

Looking for candidates with manufacturing or injection molding experience who are interested in  the high-tech plastics industry.  Candidates should have the ability to perform all of the tasks in the operation of the production injection molding machines and presses.  Understand quality systems and be able to read, write and comprehend instructions that have been established to complete the assigned product.


JOB SUMMARY:    Coordinate the process, methods and sequence for the production of injection molded plastic parts in Micro Mold Production or Small Mold Production.  Provide support to production, design, toolroom and customers to ensure dimensionally accurate parts.  Takes responsibility for the production of plastic parts that meet or exceed the expectation of the customer.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Education/Experience.  High school education coursework or GED required.  Experience or training in manufacturing using quality systems   Five years manufacturing experience in plastic injection molding with relevant knowledge of resins and plastic materials preferred.


Computer Skills.  Ability to operate personal computer, fax machine, copy machine and telephone required.  Proven accuracy in keyboarding skills to enter data correctly and efficiently.  Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word preferred.


Language Skills. Proven reading and written communication skills required with the ability to comprehend, and interpret instructions and standards from manuals or other materials.  Ability to effectively present information or training to employees, in one-on-one and small group situations.


Mathematical Skills.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of rate, ratios, percent and use of trigonometry.  Ability to read and understand specification drawings complicated designs and drawings for inspection

  • Cut and shape tile to fit around obstacles and into odd spaces and corners

  • Align and straighten tile using levels, squares and straightedges

Job Description Assist construction / paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking and running wheelbarrow.Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site.Operate small power tools such as jack hammer.Dig, spread and level construction materials.Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies.Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs,barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.Perform other duties as assigned.

    Incumbent must be able and willing to work on remote projects in Colorado and neighboring states; work under very rigorous conditions – long hours and 6 to 7 days a week at times. Good communication skills are required and an ability to focus on tasks at hand, be a self-motivator, and to work well with others. Base hourly wage and Davis Bacon classification/hourly wage will be established and/or negotiated commensurate with specific experience and qualifications.

    Applicant must be at least 18 years old. This is outside work in all types of environments, weather conditions, and all seasons. Due to the nature of the position, regular and timely attendance is essential and must conform to the company's hours of operation.

    Construction background required, prefer paving or heavy/highway construction experience. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus + Valid ID, background check, and drug screening are required for all applicants.
