The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in design, modeling, control, hardware development, and testing of power electronic devices and systems and their application to energy conversion and the integration of renewable and distributed resources in electrical power systems.

The candidate should have a track record of research in the field of power electronic devices and systems and the ability to contribute to innovative research projects, proposals, and technical publications in the fields of power electronics and power systems.

The successful candidate will contribute to research in developing novel power electronic systems and devices for energy systems applications. This will include developing electrical models, design and prototyping of power electronic converters from PCB design to system integration, and performing computer simulation studies and laboratory testing of power electronic devices and converters integrated in power systems.

The successful candidate will join the Integrated Devices and Systems (IDS) group within the Power Systems Engineering Center (PSEC) at NREL. The IDS group conducts research in grid technology hardware and control firmware/software; communications, interconnection, and interoperability standards development; and both device and integrated systems development and testing for supporting the operation of the future power system. IDS works closely with other groups within PSEC to support the science and technology goals of the U.S.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustment for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Although it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous federal service will generally be paid the minimum step of the grade. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position.

The tour of duty for this position is full-time. The position description number for this position is 4746. The incumbent of this position may elect to work a flexitime or compflex work schedule.
