Major Duties: * Maintain, repair, and rebuild a variety of assortment of commercial and industrial air handlers, variable frequency drives (VFD), environmental control rooms, humidifiers, chilled water systems, cooling towers, air cooled chillers, water cooled chillers, direct expansion air conditioning units, etc.
Perform quarterly preventive maintenance program and work with oxy acetylene welding material.
Balance elements of the systems to meet temperatures and humidity requirements associated with the above HVAC systems.
Review blueprints, plans, wiring schematics, piping schemes or engineering specifications/verbal instructions; or use OEM manuals to diagnose and repair equipment.
Perform operation, maintenance and testing of programmable logic controllers (PLC), and Building Automated Systems (BAS). * Use various plumbing and pipe fitting materials such as copper, PVC, ABS, CPVC, cast iron, black iron, galvanized iron and others.
Make visual inspections for maintenance and repair deficiencies to all affected facilities.

Job Duties • Run service work orders for assigned areas• Troubleshoot and repair heat pumps, DX units, auxiliary electric heat elements, pneumatic and electric controls, refrigeration equipment, ice machines and water fountains• Check equipment for each facility, Log temperatures & pressures on log sheet as applicable• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment• Test relays, switches, coils, fuses, breakers, read schematics• Repair electric motors, steam and chill water valves• Operate refrigerant recovery equipment• Replace worn belts and bearings on air handlers• Perform other duties as assigned Additional Information to Applicants Applicants invited for an interview must bring a copy of the required license. - Benefits + Questions POSITION OVERVIEW ALL PERSON INTERESTED Heating & Air Conditioning Repair PN# 17893 Parks and Recreation Department Facilities Management and Development HVAC 6200 Wheeler 6:30 am- 3:30 pm *Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This individual will troubleshoot, repair, and replace HVAC equipment. Troubleshoot, repair, and replace HVAC components and equipment.
Repair various split/ systems, rooftop package units, window units, chillers, and refrigeration equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/ or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One years of experience in the installation, service and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems is required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2). State of Texas Registered Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician License. PREFERENCES Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6..
