This job classification is covered by a collective bargaining agreement Specific Knowledge, Skill, & Experience Required: The Aircraft Servicer services the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) P-3 aircraft.

Operates all ground support equipment. Performs daily inspections and servicing of aircraft systems to replenish fuel, oil, water, waste system chemicals, oxygen, hydraulic fluid, and to remove waste. Perform aircraft washes, pre / post wash lubrication and zonal inspections.

Also performs any combination of the following tasks; direct incoming and outgoing aircraft near the flight line parking area to assist pilot’s maneuvering of the aircraft on the ground, using portable radio, hand signals and/or with guiding lights, and secure aircraft in the parking position with chocks and/or tie downs as required. Check for fuel contamination by draining sumps and fuel drains; operate ground support equipment such as electrical power carts and engine / auxiliary power units, examine tires for specified air pressures and condition, assist in jacking and towing aircraft. Employment is dependent upon successful DOD secret clearance and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) background investigation and drug screen.

United States-California-Monterey Job Number: 170003RM Job Summary: Performs the full range of duties in connection with the servicing of vehicles and mobile equipment and performs minor maintenance work. Duties and Responsibilities: Performs all or a substantial combination of the following duties:

  • Drains and changes lubricants in crank cases, differentials, and transmissions; lubricates vehicles and replaces oil and air filters; replaces shock absorbers, mufflers, and tail pipes; adjusts and bleeds brake systems: packs front wheel bearings and flushes radiators. Checks fluid level in braking systems and power steering reservoir's.

  • Checks oil and water levels, tire pressure, anti-freeze and advises customer on finding, suggesting additional service or accessories as appropriate. Rotates, repairs and replaces tube and tubeless tires.

    Inspects front end of vehicles for proper alignment and worn ball joints, and advises customer. Installs trailer hitches.

  • Assists automotive workers of higher grade in the installation of accessories and in automotive tune-ups by replacing spark plugs, ignition points and condenser, etc.

  • Opens and closes a location Automotive Service Station in accordance with established procedures.

  • Prepares service work orders for work to be done. Counsels customers on automotive service needs and resolves patron service questions and complaints.

  • Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment to remove or apply various preservatives and to gain access to those internal parts or surfaces requiring preservations.

  • Performs minor mechanical repairs for the purpose of preservation, or when items are broken. Performs disassembly, assembly, and makes adjustments to equipment such as removing and replacing light bulbs, spark plugs, valve covers, fuel access caps, fuel injection lines, etc.

  • May construct standard framing crates, pallets, etc., to enclose or support items being preserved.

  • Performs internal blocking and bracing of items before storage or shipping.

  • Screens and/or examine the equipment to determine serviceability and plan processing methods to be used by others, to meet specification, based on such factors as condition of material, condition of packaging, storage life, level of packaging, etc. utilizing the same skills and knowledge used in personally performing the work.

Physical Effort: Works and stands on concrete or asphalt surfaces for long periods of time and performs work in tiring and uncomfortable positions which require the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, reach, and lift items that may weigh up to 60 pounds. Heavier items may require the use of materials handling equipment or the assistance of another employee.

Working Conditions: Work is typically performed inside in areas that may be hot, cold, damp, or drafty; but may also be performed outside subjecting the incumbent to inclement weather, wind, or mud. Also subject to dangerous or irritating fumes or vapors, acids or caustic substances; dust, dirt, oil, grease, and similar materials which may soil hands or clothing; possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; and moderate noise.
