A Container Engineer is responsible to develop an engineered container that will be used to support production in GM manufacturing and assembly centers. This responsibility requires an individual to take inputs, understand the constraints within the system, and develop a robust packaging solution that supports the enterprise while controlling costs.
As a container engineer you are expected to interact and effectively work with multifunctional groups. Within this group, the engineer is expected to lead development discussions and ask questions to help identify critical constraints that the container must support, as well as understand the risks that must be mitigated to help control costs. As a container engineer, you will be expected to provide technical details regarding packaging strategies and designs to support other teams in manufacturing, material handling or purchasing to help drive the best solution for the enterprise. This element of the job requires good communication skills and computer skills to work effectively with the organization.
The container engineer will utilize a defined development process to manage projects to their milestones and budget targets. Ultimately the container engineer is responsible for developing a robust solution with high first time quality (zero rework).
A container engineer needs to be able to prioritize tasks and work effectively in self-directed situations. Much of your time will be spent out of the office, away from direct supervision. Most of the travel is limited to SE Michigan, however some scheduled overnight trips to plants within North America to support program launches should be expected.
