Anesthesiologist Using a combination of general and local anesthetic to allow for safe management of patient's during oral surgery and other dental procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Place peripheral intravenous catheters.
Perform airway management including nasotracheal and endotracheal intubations.
Induce, maintain and emerge a patient from anesthesia under the direction of an anesthesiologist.
Monitor and legibly record findings on the anesthesia record.
Tests anesthesia equipment for proper functioning.
Communicate with anesthesiologist, dentist, physician, nursing, etc.
Prepares the O.R. with the necessary anesthesia supplies, equipment, drugs and intravenous solution as appropriate for case.
Undertake the plan of anesthesia as directed by the anesthesiologist.
Maintain ongoing knowledge of the field of anesthesia.
Assists with lifting, transfer, and transports patients weighing up to 300 pounds. Ability to push and carry patient care equipment using safe body mechanics. Frequent sitting and standing.
Comply with the bylaws, regulations, directives and polices of the Hospital, the Medical/Dental Staff and applicable departments and committees of the Hospital and the Medical/Dental Staff.
Complete and maintain, in a timely manner, adequate and proper medical and other records in compliance with the policies, rules and regulations adopted by the Hospital from time-to-time and any all accrediting bodies with respect to all services rendered to patients of the Hospital.
Effectively communicate with all members of surgical team as well as other staff to facilitate appropriate care.

POSITION SUMMARY: The anesthesiologist provides services to patients undergoing surgery or diagnostic studies requiring sedation or anesthesia.
This includes consultations with surgeons and appropriate subspecialists; pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation; inter-operative anesthesia and monitoring, and post-anesthetic care. The anesthesiologist is also responsible for life support, including airway management, respiratory care, and other forms of physiologic support throughout the hospital and clinics when required. Degree of doctor of medicine (M.D.) or osteopathy (D.O.) 2. Successful completion of a training program in anesthesiology accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or equivalent organization. 3. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana. 4.
Current, unrestricted DEA registration (schedules II-IV) or no history of revocation of DEA registration (schedules (II-IV) within the past five years. 5. Current Louisiana Controlled Dangerous Substance License. 6. Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications, as applicable. 7.
Permanent certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or current recertification within the time interval required by the ABA. 8. Documented continued competence in the specialty of anesthesiology in order to maintain clinical privilege. 9. Compliance with the ABA Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program (MOCA). 10.
Compliance with Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners requirements for CME. 11.
Demonstration of competence in advanced life support. Responsibilities: 1.
Responsibility for directing all anesthesia and sedation services for patients throughout the hospital (including all departments in all campuses and off-site locations where anesthesia services are provided.) 2. Delivery of anesthesia services consistent with recognized standards for anesthesia care including: a. Patient consent; b.
Infection control measures; c. Safety practices in all anesthetizing areas; d. Protocols for supportive life functions, e.g., cardiac and respiratory emergencies; e.
Reporting requirements; f. Documentation requirements; g. Equipment requirements, as well as the monitoring inspection, testing, and maintenance of anesthesia equipment in the hospital biomedical equipment program. 3.
Ensures that a complete pre-procedural anesthesia/sedation evaluation is done no more than 48 hours prior to each procedure. 4. Ensures that a complete post-procedural anesthesia/sedation evaluation is done no more than 48 hours after each procedure. 5. Responsibility for planning, directing and supervising all activities for the anesthesia service for patients under their care. 6.
Responsibility for ensuring the quality of appropriateness of their anesthesia patient care. 7.
Participation in a planned program of quality assurance for evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of the anesthetic care delivered with resolution of any identified problems.
