Job Summary: The CRNA administers anesthetic care for the purpose of facilitating diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical procedures.

Responsibilities: + Performs and documents a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient.

  • Develops and implements an anesthetic plan of care, including monitoring modalities and post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.

  • Selects, obtains and administers the anesthetic plan of care, including induction, maintenance and emergence phase anesthesia.

  • Recognizes alterations in physiologic responses to the surgical procedure and/or the anesthetic, takes appropriate action and notifies the responsible physician as indicated.

### Duties This position is located in the Anesthesiology Service, Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, Albany, New York and supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence. This position is responsible for providing a broad range of anesthesiology interventions to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. Duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the Medical Center.

The incumbent follows established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Department of Anesthesiology, Department of VHA, and the profession. Each Anesthesiologist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff. This functional statement is specific to physicians assigned to Anesthesiology to perform duties as an Anesthesiologist.

ASSIGNED DUTIES: * The Anesthesiologist is responsible for direct supervision of perioperative anesthetic care to patients, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative anesthetic administration and monitoring, and post-anesthesia care, in compliance with national accreditation standards. Types of surgeries include but are not limited to: general surgery, orthopedics, plastics, ophthalmology, diabetic foot, and oral surgery. Assignment will include rotational on-call coverage.

  • The Anesthesiologist provides anesthesia-related direct patient care in all functional areas of the OR, PACU, ICU ward and clinic settings as needed.

  • The Anesthesiologist must meet anesthesia-related documentation requirements set forth by Joint Commission and participates in development and implementation of program planning, objectives, policies and standards essential to delivery of quality anesthetic care

  • The Anesthesiologist is responsible for maintaining current clinical privileges and keeping licensure, CPR/ACLS, and all other appropriate documents up to date.

SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The Anesthesiologist is charged with delivering the best possible anesthesia care to our Veteran patients. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy and meet community standards and pertains to outpatients as well as inpatients.

The Anesthesiologist works within her or his privileges at all times. The Anesthesiologist is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. She or he must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of anesthesia care; i.e. s/he is expected to maintain good diagnostic, judgmental, and therapeutic acumen.

Alternative or collateral duties may include management of a subsection of anesthesiology patients, with the subsection being defined either by a disease status (e.g. gastroenterology patients, chronic pain management patients), or demographic status (women veterans, OIF/OEF veterans, employees etc). Typically these duties are designated at the time of joining but may be assigned in the course of employment in response to new initiatives. The Anesthesiologist will be expected to add her or his special skills to the department. Teaching is an integral part of the work of a VA staff Anesthesiologist.

This pertains to colleagues, residents, medical and nursing students, nursing and other ancillary staff. The staff Anesthesiologist exercises corporate citizenship by serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested. Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy.

Job Summary: Administers anesthetic care for the purpose of facilitating diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical procedures. Responsibilities: * Performs and documents a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient.

  • Develops and implements an anesthetic plan of care, including monitoring modalities and post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.

  • Selects, obtains, and administers the anesthetic plan of care, including inductin, maintenance and emergence phase anesthesia.

  • Recognizes alterations in physiologic responses to the surgical procedure and/or the anesthetic, takes appropriate action and notifies the responsible physician as indicated.

  • Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Licenses/Certifications/Registration: * Required Credential(s): * Certified
