Senior Anode Development Engineer
The Senior Anode Scientist (US) will be responsible for designing graphite-based anode systems for lithium-ion batteries. Specific responsibilities will include depth of expertise in carbon-based and binder materials, including various forms of graphite (natural and artificial), conductive additives, and water- and solvent-based binder systems. This role will involve developing a very detailed understanding of the relationships between material properties, manufacturing process, and ultimate product characteristics. This role will also involve diagnosing problems in anode systems related to lack of adhesion (delamination), lithium plating, cracking, poor dispersion, and other related phenomena. The candidate must understand how design and manufacturing process relate to specific failure modes.
This role will require close cooperation with members of the Cell Design team in the US, as well as the manufacturing operation and cell design personnel in Hangzhou, China. The successful candidate will be familiar with global vendors for anode-based materials, and will also be very familiar with anode-based failure modes in manufacturing. This candidate needs to be able to support product launch and problem-solving activities in Hangzhou, China.
The preferred candidate will have a track record of product development and a background in the battery industry. The candidate must have significant industrial experience for a company engaged in mass-production of lithium-ion batteries.
Travel up to 33% (including international) required.
This position will report to Director, Process Design.
PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field of study.
Specific experience with graphite anode systems, including design and root cause investigations in a manufacturing setting.
5+ years of experience in battery industry
3+ years in a product development role, with a focus on experience in companies in mass production with battery products
Tier-1 Automotive experience is a plus
Familiarity with failure mode analysis, including Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), is preferred.
Demonstrated record of launching commercial products successfully.
Demonstrated record of solving product problems in manufacturing.
History of publication in scientific literature is a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Chinese language ability is a plus

A Kight Home Center (a division of Carter Lumber) Yard Specialist is responsible for providing professional customer service to contractors and do-it-yourselfers by loading customers, building loads and assisting with maintenance of an efficient and clean lumber yard. This is accomplished by assisting customers in selecting and loading items they have purchased along with gathering materials to be delivered. Under general supervision performs routine loading and unloading of materials within yard or work site; assembles load packages into truck for delivery to customer job sites.
Drives various lifting devices (e.g. forklift) to move products, equipment of materials around the warehouse, shop or yard.
Oversees the work of less-experienced Load Builders as necessary.
