Primary job responsibilities include generating new ideas and approaches for the development of next generation high energy cells in accordance with A123’s technology roadmap. Attending to these responsibilities will require working closely with electrolyte, cathode, and cell scientists and engineers co-located in A123’s Waltham facility as well as in Hangzhou, China. This position is open to recent graduates holding a postgraduate degree with some industry and/or academic experience. Responsibilities: Primary Responsibilities + Anode development areas of focus include: + Post electrode processing treatment development + Exploring technologies to improve cell efficiency at component level + Optimization of formation procedures + Develop and implement synthesis and process strategies for the above areas of focus as well as the needed material characterizations.

He should store, catalogue and maintain all prints, spare parts and accessories pertaining to such equipment, order components as required, and maintain an inventory of perishable parts sufficient to minimize machine down time.   • Bonds & cuts test coupons for pull testing + Handles, applies, stores and disposes of work related chemicals in accordance with company and regulatory requirements + Inspects finished products for non-conformance + Understand any and all health and safety issues associated with each chemical used in the coating process + Understand the proper utilization of temperature monitoring instruments + Understand the monitoring and regulation of tank solution temperatures + Understand the Monitoring, Operating, and Utilization of Anodizing Tank Rectifiers

  • Maintains tank fluid levels + Monitors tank operation during shift to ensure proper operation is occurring and to prevent product loss + Complies with all environmental regulations and environmental reporting requirements.

  • Maintains a clean work area and ensures adherence to 5S Standards.

  • Uses and maintains required department and individual Personal Protective Equipment.

  • Adheres to all safety rules and practices and other company/department policies and practices.

  • Assists with other work assignments and/or may work in other departments Coating Technician II (in addition to the above) + Performs lab tests in the absence of the PAA Specialist and understands/interprets results.

  • Troubleshoots and corrects minor maintenance line finish issues + Provides technical direction related to anodizing, alodining, and primer processes to support other personnel when required + Ensure conditions of control plan are in conformance.

  • Understands the chemical composition of each tank and its function in the PAA System Other Job Functions (all levels)

  • Assists co-workers within the department, as required.

  • May work and train on tasks in other departments such as painting and grind/sand operations.

  • Understands the chemical make-up of each tank and its function in the Anodizing System.

  • Must be able to maintain the physical ability to successfully complete Respirator Fit Check requirements and wear required protective equipment.

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). Coating Technician I + Works under close supervision.

  • Possesses the ability to learn and perform job functions at an entry to intermediate level + Intermediate-level of knowledge of: ­ Math (adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying) ­ Department documentation ­ Materials Knowledge ­ Tooling/Fixtures/Templates ­ Equipment ­ Processes

  • Ability to read and write various forms of documentation related to completion of job duties such as Manufacturing Orders, Chemical MSDSs, Department Logs, forms, etc… Coating Technician II + Works under minimal supervision.

  • Trains Coating Technician I

  • Ability to support manufacturing engineers with new techniques.

  • Ability to recognize non-conformance finish issues and what steps to take when they occur

  • Ability to communicate professionally with regulatory authorities as required + Provides specific recommendations and may perform equipment maintenance.

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of all department processes, practices, math calculations, materials, and equipment

  • Troubleshoots product and process issues making recommending solutions

  • May create/develop new processes and templates Required Experience: Coating Technician (all levels) + Requires high school education or equivalent.

  • Prefer 1- 2 years of hands-on relevant experience.

  • Ability to perform minor maintenance on the system + Basic math skills. (Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide, Percentage) + Previous experience performing anondizing and/or chemical coating functions desired but not required. Coating Technician II

  • Must have 5 years hands on experience in anodizing checking and alodining processing in addition to the above education and experience requirements. WORK ENVIROMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: + Manufacturing environment

  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time

  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones)

  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds + Exposed to noise and hazardous chemicals

  • May work extended hours and/or weekends.
