We are seeking One (1) Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Physical Therapy Assistant for an available contract opportunity to provide services to support Keesler Medical Center located at Keesler AFB, MS.
Place of Performance: Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS 39534
Work Schedule/Duty Hours: Duty hours will be 0730-1630, Monday through Friday.
Period of Performance: 
Base Period of Performance: 25 Sep 2017 - 24 Sep 2018.
Option Period of Performance: 25 September 2018 - 24 September 2019
Scope of Work:
Provide a full range of physical therapy assistant services.
Carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as directed by the head physical therapist. Under supervision, administer such treatment as exercise, gait training, massage, manual therapy, hot packs, diathermy, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs and traction. Instruct patients on segments of the program including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.
Administer traction to relieve neck and back pain, using intermittent and static traction equipment. Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities, such as pre-ambulation, transfer, ambulation, and daily-living activities.
Observe patients during treatments and compile and evaluate data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and report orally or in writing to the physical therapist.
Fit patients for, adjust, and train patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
Confer with members of the physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs. Coordinate with other departments and the clinic staff to provide complete care to patients. Act as a liaison with nursing, medical staff, and other therapists to facilitate problem solving and coordination of services. Act as educational resource.
Perform administrative duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, filling out forms, scheduling patients, and staffing the reception area.
Maintain and care for department equipment and supplies and storage. Maintain department records and files in accordance with facility policies. Perform coding of patient encounters and workload.
Measure patient's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist physical therapist to compile data for patient evaluations.
Monitor treatments administered by physical therapy aides.
All patient charting is included as part of the patient visit and must be completed within department standards. There is an adequate amount of administrative time scheduled for each Contractor personnel, with the expectation that patient charting be completed during the normal duty day.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and Graduation from a physical therapy assistant program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
License/Registration: Must have a PTA National registration/certification.
PTA must maintain an active license or authorizing document from the state in which he/she are practicing.
Must have at least 24 months of experience within the last 36 months as a physical therapist assistant, at least 12 months of the 24 months must be outpatient experience.

REPORT TO:           Therapy Department Manager 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Provide assessment and following evaluations and administer diagnostic and prognostic tests. Included in the home assessment would be the determination of any methods of devices necessary to improve safety and increase functional independence. Provide discharge planning. Evaluations will be completed on admission, at least every 60 days and upon discharge.
2.Restorative therapy is expected when reasonable potential exists that the therapy will result in material improvement in the individual’s level of functioning in a reasonable period of time. Carrying out a program to maintain function would not be required, but designing a maintenance program, teaching the program to the patient/family and making periodic evaluations of its effectiveness is expected.
3.Select and teach task-oriented therapeutic activities designed to restore sensory integrative function.
4.Teach compensatory techniques such as energy conservation, work simplification techniques to improve the level of independence in activities of daily living, if the service is reasonable and necessary for treating the patient’s condition.
5.Design, fabricate, and fit orthotic and self-help devices if they are related to the patient’s need for occupational therapy services.
6.Complete and turn in clinical and patient Progress Notes, company timesheets and documentation of goal setting in a timely manner.
7.Participates in in-service programs.
8.Assist Therapy Department Manager as needed.
