Job Description

Seeking experienced and dedicated Structural Steel Installers/Iron-Workers in the San Diego area.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
-Must have the ability to weld stick, wire, dual shield, and light gage.
-Ability to read blueprints and interpret welding symbols and installation codes.
-Knowledge of crane signals.
-Erect metal and precast concrete components for structures such as buildings, bridges, dams, towers, storage tanks and fences.
-Force structural-steel members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools.
-Upload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting as needed.
-Hoist Steel beams, girders, and columns into place, using cranes, or signal hoisting equipment operators to lift and position structural-steel members.
-Help load trucks (as necessary) with iron pieces up to fifty (50) pounds.
-Complete tack welding on single iron pieces.
-Drill holes in iron with electrical drill.
-Operate hand and light power tools (impact/hammer/ wrenches).
Qualification
Requirements:
-Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
-Able to read blueprints and ability to interpret all welding symbols.
-Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
-LA City, AWS Certifications desired.
-Ability to operate forklifts is a plus.

* Assemble hoisting equipment and rigging, such as cables, pulleys, and hooks, to move heavy equipment and materials.
* Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place.
* Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
* Drive drift pins through rivet holes in order to align rivet holes in structural-steel members with corresponding holes in previously placed members.
* Erect metal and precast concrete components for structures such as buildings, bridges, dams, towers, storage tanks, fences, and highway guard rails.

-Certified 3G and 4G, flat, vertical, overhead welding through AWS with 7018 electrodes. 1/2" steel minimum.

-Must be able to cut, fit and fabricate steel.

-Must know how to lift heavy objects.

-Must know how to work safely.

-Must be able to dead lift 100 lbs objects.

-Must be familiar with hand tools such as tape measures, levels, and power tools.

-Must have or acquire your own hand tools for the trade.

-Should have extensive construction experience.

-Will be required to run angle grinders, with sanding, grinding, and cutting wheels.

-Will be required to run demo saw to cut steel. Powder actuated deck nailer.

-Will have to setup tools and put away, must be physically fit.

-Will have to run construction equipment such as scissor lifts, boom reach, telehandler, fork lifts.

Purpose and Mission

Steelworkers rig and operate special equipment used to build metal structures. They lay out and fabricate structural steel and sheet metal and work with concrete-reinforcing steel bars. This is a 5 year enlistment program.  erecting steel bridges, tanks, buildings, towers and pre-engineered structures;  fabricating, erecting, installing, fitting, welding and bolting structural steel shapes, plates and the built-up sections used in heavy construction;  laying out, fabricating and installing sheet metal assemblies and systems;  performing welding and metal cutting operations;  installing and reinforcing steel in concrete structures.  Reading and interpreting blueprints and preparing sketches for projects;  making estimates of materials, labor, and equipment requirements. Working Environment SWs may work in a variety of conditions, independently or as members of a large team. Their many different duties may be performed in climates ranging from tropical to arctic.

Opportunities to enter the SW rating are excellent for qualified applicants. About 850 men and women work as Steelworkers in the Navy. Qualifications and Interests Steelworkers must be able to work with tools, equipment and machines that require manual dexterity and close teamwork. It is important they be resourceful, capable of doing detailed work and repetitive tasks and knowledge of algebra.
