Code Welder – Gas Metal Arc Welding (Gmaw)

Title Code Welder – Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Description As an GMAW Code Welder you will be responsible for being proficient in the GMAW process to weld various components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) + Welds according to the company’s engineering specification on process piping, equipment, and structural steel.

  • Makes weld repairs according to Strobel’s engineering specs on piping, valves, towers, tanks, exchangers, compressors, fin fans, furnaces, etc.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of rig piping, machinery and equipment according to OSHA standards.

  • Performs pipefitting work on piping (i.e. screwed and welded pipe).

  • Demonstrates ability to interpret material safety data sheets (MSDSs), hazardous material identification system (HMIS), environmental safety and maintenance instructions.

  • Maintain safe and clean work environment.

  • Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Requirements:

  • Must be able to weld qualification test coupon for; + FCAW and/or GMAW welding process in the 3G & 4G position using Carbon Steel plate.

  • SMAW and GTAW welding processes in the 6G position with Carbon and/or Stainless Steel pipe.

  • Positive “can do” attitude & strong work ethic.

  • Demonstrated ability in quality X-Ray welds on process piping using GTAW and SMAW welding procedures is required.

  • Experience fabricating piping from CAD or Blueprint drawings required.

  • Must be able to complete tests using approved welding procedures in accordance with A.S.M.E. Section IX, B 31.2 required.

  • Ability to complete all tests in the 6G position required.

  • Ability to take detailed instruction.

  • Willing to be challenged to improve welding skills to meet high quality standards.

  • Must be able to read & understand weld symbols, weld procedures, mechanical and structural drawings.

  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safe work practices.

  • Must be able to use Oxy/fuel & Plasma hand cutting torch.

  • Daily housekeeping of shop and/or work area.

  • Flexible working schedule to support project needs. Considered a Plus: + ASME pipe welding experience.

  • Fit-up & layout experience on structural/misc. steel and pipe spools.

  • Experience with machine equipment such as mill or drill press.

  • Familiarity with weld inspections and related NDE (RT, MT, PT) + Pipe welding experience with ASME B31.3, B31.4 and API 1104 codes.

BASIC DESCRIPTION: This is a key staff position within the ITW Global Welding Technology Center. We are looking for an inventive person to be a key driver of differentiation and competitive advantage through the development of new welding technologies. This person will work closely with the technology development team, along with software and welding engineers across the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Primary responsibilities will include weld process investigation at a fundamental level for the purposes of improving existing weld processes and developing new weld processes. This role will also require leading and collaborating with engineers in a decentralized organization.

Job Requirements •Master’s Degree in Physics, or a related technical field with at least 5 years of applicable industry experience •Intermediate knowledge of the physics related to arc welding processes •Strong math skills and computer modeling skills •Proficiency in using analytical tools such as data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, high speed video cameras, data plotting and analysis programs, etc. •Working knowledge of electronics as related to sensors and data acquisition •A desire to network with individuals and groups within the welding industry and academia for the purpose of advancing ITW welding technology DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Hands on experience with some proficiency in semi-automatic welding processes, including GMAW, GMAW-P, GTAW, SMAW and FCAW •Knowledge of welding power source design and how it relates to arc characteristics •Experience with analog and digital control systems related to welding processes •Experience designing and constructing test fixtures for unique test programs •A solid background in chemistry •Candidate must be an aggressive self-starter and have excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills, and be a highly motivated team player with a positive attitude

Primary responsibility is to organize and assemble the weekly ARC/IAR (Airlines Reporting Corporation) electronic file report before deadline. Maintain correspondence and research with regard to airline revenue and refund departments. Monitor status of all components of ARC Administration including; air ticket refunds, partial refunds, lost ticket applications, and lost ticket inquiries, and debit memos. Compile and organize twice weekly manifest reports to the ships. Monitor and communicate Ship Services and Sales Information mailboxes.
