Position Title: Asphalt Paving Operator Position summary:

Operate equipment used for applying asphalt, or other materials to road beds, parking lots, or airport runways and taxiways, or equipment used for tamping gravel, dirt, or other materials. Includes asphalt paving machine operators and stone spreader operators. Tasks:   Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment, using mechanics' hand tools, or report malfunctions to supervisors.

We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Paving Foreman or Foreperson to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in spreading, rolling, tamping, and patching asphalt or similar material to form surfaces of highways, streets, parking lots, aircraft landing strips, and driveways. Work schedule will be both day and night depending on project.The position is assigned to Memphis, but the majority of the work (90%) is performed in east Arkansas.  
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
  • Training new crew members.
  • Calculating the number of trucks required to haul asphalt from the hot plant according to vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from work site, and productivity of drivers.
  • Touring job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, measure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and to supervise the job.
  • Supervising and coordinating crew activities, studying production schedules, and estimating work requirements for completion of job assignment in compliance with or beating the job estimate.
  • Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
  • Maintaining company policy.
  • Recommends measures to improve productions methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance
  • Will directly supervise 5 to 10 asphalt paving employees


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required and 3 years of related asphalt and paving experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to type and use keyboards accurately and possess knowledge of Database software.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to keep time and material records.

Overview:We are looking for a Paving Equipment Operator who has 2+ years of experience working with a Leica Paving Machine and know how to operator and troubleshoot the Leica GPS Plotting system. Leica GPS plotting system is a MUST HAVE.

The ideal candidate could have, in addition to the Leica requirement, 3+ years of experience working with 3D paving machine controls. 90% of the job will be operating a Leica paving machine. Other responsibilities will include operating other paving machines and could include operating backhoe, Trackhoe, dozers, loaders, JLG, grader, scrapper, and other equipment. In addition, other responsibilities could involve hydraulic shovel attachment and equipment with concave blade attachment dealing with dirt work. Responsibilities:Operate Leica Paving machine

Troubleshoot robotic, technical issues dealing with GPS plotting system Assist with Site layout, stakeout, topographical measurements, entering coordinates

Assist surveyor utilizing Leica in all phases of job site prep, surveying field, etc. when required

--Troubleshoots problems and assists with development of new machining processes. 

--Trains and mentors new and/or less experienced operators 

--Follows quality testing and inspects parts using precision gauges, measuring instruments and equipment. Quality testing may require special processes. 

--Completes manufacturing documentation and labor transactions. 

--Actively participates in the Continuous Improvement process as well as safety related activities.

Paving Construction Inspector

MacKay Sposito is seeking 2-3 full time Paving Construction Inspectors for various project locations in Vancouver, Washington to join the team. As a Paving Construction Inspector, you’ll be responsible for physical on-site observation, documentation, and inspection of construction projects to assess and ensure compliance with applicable contract plans and specifications, and applicable codes and regulations.

Keys to Success:

  • Monitor construction daily for conformance with construction contract documents.
  • Observe and report on a variety of work including installation of highway road improvements, planning of roadways, asphalt overlays, pavement patching, crack sealing, chip seal, fog seal, pavement striping, and traffic control.
  • Monitor asphalt testing and calculate price adjustment factors per WSDOT specifications.
  • Review schedules, shop drawings, submittals and schedule of values while consulting with a construction manager.
  • Prepare daily reports completely and accurately documenting all work observed.
  • Attend various construction meetings.
  • Manage and answer contractor inquiries and issues.
  • Communicate and follow up with oral and/or written reports including pertinent pictures, regarding the progress of the project to the construction manager.
  • Responsible for job specific quality assurance tasks.
  • Tracking labor and equipment for possible T&M contract work.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or NICET Certification – Level III (Construction) preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive inspection experience with city, county, state or federal roadway construction.
  • Familiar with WSDOT specifications and understanding of HMA price adjustment factors.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read, understand and verify implementation of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to be insured to drive company vehicles may be required.
  • Must be able to walk, lift, carry, stoop, bend, twist and work in the outdoors on uneven surfaces routinely. Site visits may include exposure to weather extremes and rough or uneven terrain.
