What you will do: AMES Structures Mentors are responsible for the continued aircraft structural repair skills progression of assigned Aircraft Structures Apprentice(s). The Mentor performs their regular aircraft structures maintenance, repair, and/or modification on customer aircraft in accordance with applicable technical data, customer maintenance program requirements, within estimated or budgeted hours and within FAA and customer standards of quality. While performing those tasks, the Mentor will also support the skills development process with assigned Apprentice(s) by exposing them to the structured OJT assignments, coaching (not doing it for) them, signing off on the Apprentice’s completed work to and maintaining the Apprentice’s OJT document log. Mentors Return to Service the work performed by the apprentice on the appropriate documents. Mentors lead by example (safe & compliant) to assist in the development of the Apprentice in the craft of aircraft structural repair. During the process and completion of the 12 week Apprenticeship Program, Mentors will provide input toward the recommendation of whether an Apprentice is eligible to apply for an unlicensed Structures Tech position.

The Opportunity:

Performs a variety of operations to assemble and make major assembly structures such as fuselage panels and bulkheads, and structural subassemblies such as rudders, flaps and stabilizers. Aligns parts on jigs using templates, molds and fixtures. Performs such minor part-fitting operations as filing, sawing, de-burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling and reaming. Measures parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions. May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Accountability for their assigned area or process as it relates to tools, tooling, materials, calibrations, etc. to meet production needs and prevent upset or abnormal conditions from occurring. Train and mentor level I-III assemblers. Work with Senior assemblers, peers, and support group members to facilitate process improvements. Reporting of daily/weekly throughputs vs goals (SQORE metrics) to direct supervisor and higher levels of management in the event that the direct supervisor is unavailable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the effort for the assembly and fit of pre-fabricated metallic and composite parts to form assemblies, working at benches or directly on a structure assembly fixture. Read and interpret aircraft assembly instruction plans, diagrams, drawings and other documentation in order to perform and direct other on the assembly function with accuracy with little
    supervision.

  • Assemble, fit, shim and install pre-fabricated parts and subassemblies such as aircraft spars, rib, skins and fittings.

  • Utilize hand and power tools such as drills, to assemble and fabricate components with fasteners and bonding agents. Instruct, train and oversee quality workmanship of lower level technicians. Utilize measuring equipment in order to meet specifications for the installation process.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area. Work with quality department personnel in order to keep production assemblies in proper sign off levels and within inspection procedure and/or specifications. Troubleshoot ideas for improvement and intervene when necessary on issues or concerns with process, schedule and quality needs.

  • Assist supervisor as needed, as well as additional responsibilities as required.

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.

  • 5 years plus of experience with complex aircraft assembly required.

  • Trade School certification such as Airframe & Power plant (A&P) certification is required.

  • Shop floor math skills, experience with following engineering orders, and the ability to read drawings or blueprints required.

  • Extensive experience using various hand and power tools required.

  • Experience in a leadership role with equivalent level of responsibilities required.

Coordinate meetings between the Inside and Outside Sales teams, as well as drive their attendance to local manufacturer sponsored events. * Develop- Maintain expertise on the manufacturer's products, programs, competition and the industry as well as learning about the manufacturer’s solutions including product solutions, product roadmaps, technology, and industry/competitive information. Take that expertise and put it into action in trainings, presentations, and sponsored events. What you bring to the team: * A bachelor’s degree from a four-year university or 5+ years related sales experience
