Woodcraft Industries, a division of Quanex Building Products is currently seeking a Gluer Operator on day shift, working 6:00 a.m.
- 2:30 p.m. (plus overtime).
The Gluer Operator is responsible for laying out component parts in preparation for gluing and for operating manual and automatic gluing machines.
Receives direction from the supervisor and notifies the supervisor when more work is needed.
Maintains the work area, machinery, and tools in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
Follows all safety procedures, rules, and guidelines; and notifies the supervisor of any existing or potential safety issues.
Follows all standard operating procedures and notifies the supervisor of potential procedural improvements.
Assists in other work areas when the workload permits or requires.
Cooperates with and supports co-workers and gets involved as a team player.
Meets or exceeds the production standards for the position.
Accurately, thoroughly, and legibly completes all documentation related to this position; i.e., production reports, accurate time keeping, etc.
Observes closely the operation of tools and machinery, and notifies the supervisor immediately of malfunctions or maintenance that may be needed.
Monitors product constantly to ensure that quality standards are being met, and rejects product that does not meet quality standards.
Determines status of orders at the beginning of shifts; reviews shop orders; and prioritizes work.
Obtains materials for order if necessary.
Assembles pieces for panel based on an appealing grain and color match, and places on conveyor.
Removes pieces with defects; i.e., bark, wane, skip, mineral, pin knots, and thin staves; and sorts daily.
Coordinates the repair of rejected pieces as time allows.
Maintains a working knowledge of the various lumber species.
Adjusts glue roller for proper speed to avoid excessive squeeze-out and yet have ample coverage across stave.
Stacks glued panels coming off the gluer conveyor.
Sets clamps to the appropriate length and width.
Sets proper air settings for various species.
Places sets of pieces for panels in clamps, checking for proper glue coverage and alignment.
Activates clamps on automatic machine or sets clamps with air gun on manual machine.
Advances machine and removes glued panels.
Performs related work as required.

What You'll be Responsible For in this Role
In this role you will perform the following duties
Reads customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered or distributed.
Inspects forklift equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, etc.
Processes clear and accurate paperwork
Conveys material and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas
Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color or product code.
Fills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items.
Assembles customer order from stock and places orders on pallets or conveys orders to the shipping department and may load material onto a truck.
Counts items to ensure conformance to company standards.
Compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications.
Marks materials with identifying information
Opens bales, crates or other containers if needed.
Maintains inventory records.
Records the amount of materials or items received or distributed
May use computer to enter records
Prepares parcels for mailing
Has inspection authority to release or not to release product prior to delivery
Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as requested
What We're Looking For
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Forklift certified a plus
2 years' experience in warehouse environment
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization, including dealing with customers, vendors, and co-workers
Proficient in computer software
Ability to work independently and as a team player
Ability to operate various warehouse tools
Experience with manufacturing machinery; Stackers, Pressers, Corrugating, Folders, Cutters, Gluers
