Precision Electromechanical Assembler 2
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks a Precision Electromechanical Assembler 2 to support efforts located in Salt Lake City, UT.
The Precision Electromechanical Assembler performs all levels of mechanical and electronic assembly of fiber optic sensors. Additional responsibilities includes; splicing and routing optical fibers, reading and recording power measurements and some soldering. Disassembles, repairs and reassembles precision assemblies and corrects malfunctions. May assemble and modify prototype precision units for engineering personnel. Performs fine detail assembly with small parts. Uses precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specified tolerance. And, may monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
High School Diploma/GED and 2 years additional education/or experience.
Requires good hand and eye coordination.
Must have the ability to read, interpret and follow standard procedures.
Requires problem solving skills.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Assembly experience using a microscope is preferred.
Experience splicing optical fibers is preferred.

Under general supervision and in accordance with Instron Quality Standards, assembles load frames and consoles from engineering drawings and bills of material. Troubleshoots and tests frames to specifications.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Assembles load frames, consoles, and accessories from assembly drawings and bills of material. Uses hand tools such as torque wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, and pneumatic tools.
Load tests and troubleshoots load frames to Instron specifications. Sets up console, runs a program, or load tests to a fixture; judges proper operation from data on recorder. Makes assembly adjustments accordingly.
Maintains a clean and efficient work area.
Assists test engineers in troubleshooting mechanical problems encountered during systems test to ensure system is working to capacity.
Works with Manufacturing Engineering personnel in releasing new series equipment and solving assembly and design problems.
Knowledge, Skills, & Ability Required:
Must possess the ability to read and comprehend assembly drawings and bill of material. Must be able to follow assembly blueprints, wiring diagrams, written and verbal instructions. This is normally acquired through attainment of a technical high school education.
Must have a good mechanical aptitude and the ability to recognize and use tools normally utilized in the manufacture of heavy electromechanical equipment, i.e., overhead cranes, chains, straps, torque wrenches, indicators, etc. This is normally acquired in 2-3 years of electromechanical assembly experience.
Must have good working knowledge of hardware, basic measuring tools, along with the communication skills necessary to properly function in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.; package labels (minimum two person lift) will require two individuals for lifting each item or using lifting equipment.
Plant environment with exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and the hazards related to use of high force equipment lubricants and cleaning fluids.

Responsible for performing a wide variety of mechanical tasks associated with the development, manufacture, or repair of products. Duties will include performing complex mechanical assembly on repair units (RMA’s) on a number of different products using hand tools and some light power tools.
The size and complexity of the product varies greatly from a small table top unit to a large console.
Tracking the units in and updating the current status of these units requires solid understanding of MRP systems and Excel. A large percentage of the time is spent in the system entering or reasearching material status of the parts required to complete the unit.
Basic wiring and soldering experience is preferred but not required.
Must be able to work independently, interpret assembly drawings and follow verbal/written work instructions to produce a high quality unit within the allotted time frame.
