To qualify for this internship, you should have very good analytical, verbal and written communication skills and be organized, methodical and detail oriented. Mechanical or Industrial Engineering majors are preferred, but any STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related major will be considered.

Preference will be given to children and relatives of Pelican employees, but external candidates will be considered if we are unable to fill positions. Candidates should be actively attending college and either scheduled to graduate in 2017 or entering into their junior or senior year of college in Fall 2017.

The position is based in Chicago, IL.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a global specialist to Grace manufacturing operations in the area of combustion systems. Define standards for systems and leverage best practices across the network. Examples of systems include:

  • Calciners and kilns

  • Flash dryers

    Chemical Engineering Or Mechanical Engineering Intern

      Chem E or ME Intern Position Overview This is 8-hr. per day position/40 hrs. per week M - F.  Pay for this position is $15/hr. Job Responsibilities Support production areas as needed with process instructions and yield tracking Review and revise P&ID's and engineering drawings.

    Specific project would be assigned based on skills: ChE might be given a process improvement project ME might be given a maintenance improvement project Extensive walking.  Must be able to crouch, climb ladders, maneuver through tight spaces to trace factory pipelines.

    Perform engineering calculations and use computer-based document control. Job Requirements Completion of engineering coursework through Sophomore year Mechanical aptitude is highly desirable Experience working in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable CAD experience is a plus Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is required Strong focus on safety Team-player able to develop strong inter-personal relationships with peers This position will require a great deal of physical demand such as lifting/pushing, climbing and walking in elevated or confined spaces
