The ChallengeThe GE Appliances Principal Tooling Engineer - Metals will be a member of the Metal Stamping Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team. The Metal Stamping AME Team owns and maintains the engineering standards for metal stamping tooling and equipment for the company. The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for managing and executing tooling and metal stamping equipment projects, ensuring that all tooling and equipment are compliant with standards and executed within the project or program deliverables (cost, quality and delivery). At times, the Tooling Engineer will be assigned to New Product Introduction (NPI) programs or to product lines projects to drive product cost out and factory productivity. The Tooling Engineer will be a key liaison between the project team and the plant operation and manufacturing teams; ensuring that plant priorities and objectives are clearly understood and considered for the area under their ownership.
What you will Do
Manage metal stamping tooling and equipment procurement projects: Including specification development utilizing GE standards, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation and qualification of high quality, right-sized and cost effective tooling & equipment. Ensure all tooling and equipment is reliable and robust and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Coordinate design efforts between part design engineers and the Die Engineering Team in order to develop a robust Die Operational Lineup (DOL) that meets product and operational requirements.
Own the program metrics as applicable to your assigned projects: manufacturing labor plan (VLOH), equipment and tooling budgets and quality of in-house manufactured parts/product. Develops and completely lays out and fabricates prototype sheet metal and related parts and assemblies as a bench operation for the purpose of creating or proving engineering design, working from complex detail, assembly and installation blueprints, loft data, or other general configuration and preliminary engineering information, where it is required to exercise a complete knowledge of sheet metal layout and part fabrication methods and techniques including the forming characteristics of various metals and alloys; determines proper sequence of operations; performs such typical operations as laying out material for parts having deep draws, compound angles and compound curves, and hand rolling edges to small diameters, improvising and fabricating required temporary tooling such as form blocks and templates to facilitate work operations.
Determines methods and sequence of operations, lays out complete and sets up parts preparatory to welding, and straightens and aligns warped assemblies after welding, where engineering information is incomplete and tooling is either inadequate or not available, exercising a complete knowledge of the forming characteristics of metals used and their reaction to heat, so that the number of setups and amount of forming and warping are held to a minimum; sets up by trimming, fitting, spot tack welding, forming and positioning parts in jigs and holding fixtures where the assemblies being prepared for welding have multiple locating points and numerous parts, which when welded together by a series of welds, results in cumulative distortion or strains in several non-parallel planed of the assemblies; aligns and straightens parts and several non-parallel planes of the assemblies; aligns and straightens parts and assemblies before each subsequent weld, and corrects any distortion by applying heat with torch, by using arbor presses, jacks, turnbuckles and hammers, or by other means to keep parts in direct location to each other, and to obtain proper contour to exacting tolerances.

Previous work experience in consumer electronic products and work experience programming on ARM processors, experience with Bluetooth BLE, UART or IoT (Internet of Things) are highly preferred!

Assembles, installs and repairs sheet metal products, parts and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assembles panel boxes, exhaust fans, house doors, damper hoods and makes pan rings according to job order
Smooths burred surfaces with files and grinders
Lay and attach metal or wood flooring and/or covering
Apply primer, paint, varnish and caulk as needed
Perform close up requirements
Other duties as assigned
Ability to understand structural drawings
Understanding of 6S
Basic math skills
Basic reading/writing skills
Knowledge of basic hand tools
Ability to read/understand a tape measure
Ability to use a paintbrush
Ability to operate air assisted paint gun
Knowledge of different types of flooring/wood
Knowledge and understanding of metal types and gauging
Ability to utilize pneumatic/hydraulic hand tools
Ability to operate a forklift
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to six months related experience and/or training.
