Machine Tool Builders work as part of a team, typically 2-4 co-workers, building metal forming, automation and related equipment. Each piece of equipment has unique attributes as they are assembled one at a time. The work environment is skilled trades, there is no high volume or repetitive manufacturing at Minster. Fully trained Machine Tool Builders will work from blue prints, use a variety of measuring instruments while working in close tolerances and a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish the work. Fully trained and competent machine tool builders will have versatile skills and in-depth knowledge of:

Essential Responsibilities: 1. Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble . 2.

Dismantle or partly dismantle machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts. 3. Replace broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock; ordering the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs; preparing written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops. 4. Reassemble machines and make all necessary adjustments for operation. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Repairs, services and adjusts gasoline or diesel engines, electric motors, generators, pumps, hydraulic systems and other machinery and equipment aboard floating plant at the Engineer Yard and the Lakes Projects. Adjusts and watches pressure gauges, oil levels, and temperatures. Selects correct type of grease and oil required for the various machinery and equipment. b. Develops constant awareness of equipment operational activity and sounds to detect overheating or malfunction of bearings, brakes, or clutches, leaks in piping, or other hazards that may develop. Makes adjustment when required and notifies supervisor or operator of imminent breakdowns of machinery or equipment. c. Operates auxiliary equipment, including pumps, generators, air compressors, and other machinery operated by electric motors or small auxiliary engines. d. Assists other employees in making repairs to machinery by making adjustments, disassembling machinery, packing pumps, replacing worn parts, cleaning parts, etc., and assists on any emergency repairs. e. Operates portable electric and pneumatic tools; uses machinist hand tools, jacks, chain hoists, blow torch, threader, etc., and such measuring devices as calipers, rules, and gauges.
