Director Of Bands And Instrumental Music Education (One-Year Term)

Director of Bands and Instrumental Music Education (one-year term) Northwestern College invites applications for a one-year term appointment (with possible conversion to tenure-track) director of bands and instrumental music education to begin fall 2017. This faculty member will direct and provide leadership for the Northwestern College band program, including conducting the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, teaching courses in instrumental music education, teaching applied lessons in an area of expertise, teaching advanced conducting, and supervising student teachers.

This faculty member will also lead the Symphonic Band on its annual concert tour, which includes regional, national and international destinations. Candidates must have completed a master’s degree in conducting or music education (doctorate preferred), show evidence of excellence in teaching, and have experience in secondary school teaching as a band director. The ideal candidate will be a skilled conductor with ability to lead an excellent college-level band program and will also have the skills necessary to lead the training of future instrumental music educators.

Candidates must have an applied teaching/performing area on a brass or woodwind instrument or percussion (preference given to trumpet, horn or percussion). The successful candidate will have an authentic Christian faith and support the college’s mission and identity as expressed in our Vision for Learning, Vision for Diversity and Statement of Christian Identity. The music department has four full-time and 20 adjunct faculty members. The program is housed in DeWitt Music Hall and Christ Chapel, which provide outstanding performance, rehearsal, studio and classroom space.

The college has 11 performing ensembles, two of which tour annually. Academic programs include a fully accredited undergraduate music education program, a major in music and worship leadership, a music minor, and career concentrations in music performance and music therapy. The department annually grants approximately $300,000 in music scholarships.

The technician's primary responsibilities include but are not limited to providing estimates, completing repairs, adjustments, overhauls, and preventative maintenance services on customer and rental pool band instruments. Our Band Repair Technician will support both walk in and school road sales repairs. This full-time position is located in our Cedar Falls Iowa store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Complete band instrument evaluation, set up, and repairs in a timely manner and consistent with West Music standards. Work will on customer, manufacture warranty work, and West Music stock work on both brass and wind instruments.

  • Provides estimates for costs of repairs utilizing the repair price table. Provide regular follow up on estimates.

  • Handle all customer communication in a professional and articulate manner

  • Inspect each repaired instrument thoroughly to ensure excellent customer satisfaction

  • Develop relationships with customers to build repeat business.

  • Collaborate with Educational Sales staff to increase awareness of repair offerings within local school districts.

  • Creating working partnerships with area schools and Directors to help drive repair business.

  • Attend school contests and festivals to provide on-site repair services.

  • Will order repair parts and supplies as necessary.

  • Accurate completion of all repair paperwork, including repair tickets and shop logs.

  • Maintains technical knowledge on tools and techniques.

  • Maintain operational safety of repair shop including safely using tools and equipment, completing periodic audits, training and hazardous material inventories.

  • Maintain a clean work station.

  • Contribute to the cleaning and maintenance of the entire Service Shop

  • Willingness to provide assistance to other departments as needed

Education, Experience and Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a certificated instrument repair program.

  • Must be able to play test all instruments being repaired.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across multiple departments and with both internal and external customers and resources.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with experience in prioritizing and juggling multiple tasks and demands while meeting deadlines.

  • Must have strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and can speak, write, and communicate ideas to a variety of audiences in a clear, concise manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years' brass and/or woodwind repair experience.

The Packaging Production worker is responsible for final packaging of all Dunlop produced products (guitar accessories), at the final stage before product is sent to Finished Goods for shipment to customers.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products in order to ensure that packing specifications are met.
  • Obtain, move, and sort products, materials, containers, and orders, using hand tools.
  • Run various packaging equipment – Blister Packer, Skin Packer, Sealer and Shrink Tunnel.
  • General packaging of finished products in boxes, bags, containers along with labeling and sealing.
  • Mark and label containers, container tags, or products, using marking tools.
  • Must work safely and follow all safety guidelines.
  • Occasionally move boxes from place to place.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in general packaging.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency – MS Office and Material Control Systems.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
