Description: Plan and perform all required operations connected with erection and assembly of machinery and auxiliaries following standard or accepted methods and procedures.
Work involves the erection and assembly of large equipment involving considerable amount of parts requiring skill and care to maintain close tolerances in fits, alignments and clearances.
Work from drawings, schematics and other specifications, data and other instructions to plan erection procedures. Finish, align, shim and dowel as necessary. Set wheels and assemble pump brackets on pumps, check and adjust alignments and clearances. Attach and connect high and low pressure hydraulic, air, coolant and other tube lines.
Detect and report defective materials, improper operation and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
Education/skills: Use shop mathematics. Equivalent to 3 – 4 years practical trades training, ability to read drawings and schematics, operate necessary tools and equipment and willing to travel to perform both foreign and domestic field service work when required.

Zip-Pak is seeking a Machine Assembler for its Engineering and Development Center in Carol Stream, IL. The NPD Assembler is responsible for all basic functions of machinery construction and testing within the Zip-Pak Engineering Department, and as required for the Systems group. This assembler performs difficult and diversified assembly, and erection of a variety of products, where procedures and methods may not be known, and will require using some machine tools, test equipment and machine shop equipment; which includes EDM, CNC mill, lathe and various surface preparation equipment.
Performs intricate fitting, adjusting and aligning required on complete products, units or sub- assemblies involving a considerable number of parts, close tolerances and interrelated factors. This person will also assemble equipment, as well as partial equipment and test apparatus, which is new and/or developmental in nature. Conduct testing trials and prepare appropriate supporting documentation.
Assemble, install, modify and test electrical/electronic systems; including simple programming required to perform full testing and validation of a variety of developmental equipment. Be familiar with standard electrical concepts, practices and safe practices. Performs a variety of tasks, work under general supervision and use a certain degree of creativity and latitude.
The assembler will provide technical feedback relating to components, assemblies, control systems, programming scheme and fitness for use; in support of Zip-Pak’s global equipment strategy and in support of ITW Strategic Sourcing initiatives. He or she will create detailed reports for all activities, for both internal and external groups, confer with NPD, Process and Applications Engineering, and support solutions that optimize functionality and quality. He or she will work under the direction of the Systems Manager and/or Project Engineers in a fast paced collaborative environment supportive of program initiatives and compliant with company best practices. Work in a cross functional team consisting of production members, engineers, service technicians, NPD die development and zipper facilities.
