Focal Point has an immediate opening for an Assembly Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to an assembly production team and will serve as the link to plant management for the department. The individual will supervise and facilitate the day-to-day shift activities of the assigned team, intervening as necessary to ensure the teams goals and results are consistent with company direction. The supervisor will work with the assembly team members to develop their full potential through constant communication, training, feedback, and coaching. This role, in conjunction with the team, is responsible for team member safety, product quality, adherence to schedule, productivity, department equipment, and work place housekeeping. This position reports to the Assembly Manager.
Responsibilities:

  • Plans and directs the activities of all human and physical resources of the assigned assembly department to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity goals.
  • Oversees work order management, material flow, and material handling to ensure efficient utilization of resources.
  • Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment, by following defined safety procedures, encouraging involvement, following up on safety concerns, and modeling proper safe behaviors.
  • Develops and implements safety procedures and supports Safety Manager in achieving departmental and plant safety goals.
  • Identifies, develops and implements safety, quality, and productivity best practices across the Assembly department.
  • Utilizes product and process knowledge to provide training to direct reports with a focus on developing a professional and flexible workforce. Ensures appropriate cross training of across all products and processes.
  • Accountable for team members performance and responsible for employee relations issues, including required discipline.
  • Achieves the expected level of quality service by ensuring adherence to company quality standards and proposing improvements to quality procedures based on observations of production process.
  • Participates in 8D Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, ISO audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
  • Provides a communication network between direct reports and middle and upper management by facilitating meetings with team members and constant one-on-one interaction.
  • Creates and updates processes and systems by analyzing layouts, operating controls and procedures. Champions continuous improvement efforts and works with supporting function to implement change.
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate cost and/or waste through the application of LEAN manufacturing principals.

        • Experience leading and managing groups of 75 or more employees.
        • Demonstrated ability to train production employees through hands-on methods.
        • Working knowledge of problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
        • Experience with ISO 9000 / 14001 or other Quality programs.
        • Lean certification or experience working in and applying lean principles in a manufacturing setting.
        • Ability to analyze data and processes to determine optimal procedures to be followed with a goal of obtaining the highest level of quality and productivity.
        • Proficient with the use of computer-based tools ERP (JD Edwards preferred), MS Office Suite
        • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and written) with all levels of work force including production workers, engineers and upper level management. This position reports directly to the VP of Supply Chain.  The position requires a strong, collaborative business relationship with Human Resources, Store Operations, Retail Store Managers, Operations Manager and Customer Service Manager. This position will be based out of the Paper Source Distribution Facility (7801 Industrial Drive, Forest Park, IL 60130).



Position Summary:

Responsible for support in the execution of all the daily activities required to manage shift responsibilities across Production (assembly lines), Inbound (receiving, put away/replenishment and ticketing) or Outbound (pick, pack and ship) operations in the distribution center. Responsible for assisting in the staffing, training, and scheduling of all shift warehouse personnel in the departments outlined, while maintaining strict adherence to payroll budget, planning hours to achieve productivity goals and effectively manage fluctuating levels of work. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, including compliance to all OSHA and Safety regulations and guidelines.  Provide 100% customer satisfaction by providing same day shipment of all customer and store orders ensuring accuracy, proper packaging, using efficient and cost effective transportation modes.


Essential Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Provide hands-on supervision for staff and associates to maximize productivity and accuracy in their job functions by spending no less than 90% of his/her time on the warehouse floor. Utilizes weekly benchmark reports, performance posting, and goal setting to measure and communicate the results of performance to your team

Oversee multiple assembly line production projects, kits

Plan daily workloads to ensure all customer/store orders will be 100% shipped the same day.

Support the standards with the warehouse personnel to drive a customer focused environment.

Supervises daily processes to ensure all Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics are met or exceeded

Provide direction and assistance to warehouse associates by clarifying questions pertaining to job assignments and resolving issues

Meet all departmental expectations to effectively drive results

Assist in training, developing and managing a group of 10-25 associates in non-exempt positions.  Monitor and enhance individual performance through clearly defined expectations, training, coaching and mentoring to achieve desired results

Participate in the Paper Source Safety program, using the monthly Safety and Health Survey, to provide a safe work environment and comply with all Federal, State and OSHA and safety regulations

Instill a “5S” cleanliness culture throughout the facility

Provides training and certification prior to an employee being permitted to operate and monitors all employees’ use of Industrial Powered equipment in the facilities. (Forklifts, Order Pickers, etc.)  Establishes a program to provide recurrent training every 2 years.

Provides accurate and timely reporting of warehouses activities using the current Distribution Center Business Metrics report, any other benchmark reporting spreadsheets, and other reports as may be required and outlined from time to time.

Complies with the logistic and distribution center budgetary constraints for the warehouse and monitors all controllable expenses such as Overtime, Salary, Temporary help, Supplies, LTL costs, UPS/FedEx costs, Facility Maintenance expense, etc.

Other duties and assignments that may be required or necessitated as a result of change in the job requirements.



Requirements:

●  2-4 years focus in Manufacturing, Direct to Consumer and Business to Business applications is desired

●  2-4 years functional Knowledge and experience in conducting metric driven analysis and accountability

●  Ability to communicate clearly, thoroughly and professionally across business channels

●  Bilingual (Spanish) communication skills a plus

●  Lean Manufacturing and/or lean Six Sigma experience and certification a plus

●  Demonstrated competence in the use of Microsoft Operating Systems

SUMMARY:
Responsible for the efficient performance and support of the assembly units by working with the Cell LeadershipTeam (Scheduler, Manufacturing Engineer, & Quality Engineer); carries out the orders of the Operations Manager within the policies, procedures, contract and guidelines established; maintains quality, production, safety and other standards. Supervises all union personnel involved in carrying out this function.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Directs all work in their assigned departments in accordance with specifications established by the engineering division.

3. Overcomes obstacles, such as material shortages or machine / tooling breakdowns which may interfere with meeting schedules or maintaining quality; enlists the assistance of Tooling and Engineering, Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering and other departments.
4. Trains and assists employees to:
  • Maintain product quality in accordance with specifications.
  • Keep scrap at the lowest practicable level.
  • Maintain high productivity, without lowering quality standards.
  • Maintain a smooth flow of work within the department and into the departments to which the department supplies parts.
  • Control costs to meet the budget.

11. Ensures the safety of the cell by conducting safety training; department inspections for cleanliness, personal protective equipment and safety issues; ensures the proper maintenance, operation, and orderliness of area, machinery, equipment, facilities, and material in process.

13. Covers multiple cells during Saturday work rotation.

Supervise and coordinate the activities of assembly line workers. Ensure that productivity, quality and safety goal are met or exceeded.
Enforce Safety policies and PPE Requirements.

Supervisory experience in a GMP compliant manufacturing environment
