The physicist will join an active research and development group focused on applications in atomic and quantum sensing of geophysical phenomena. Sensors of interest include accelerometers, clocks, electrometers, gravity gradiometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers. The physicist will collaborate on current sensor development projects and help develop new concepts and approaches for future investigations.

They will work closely with a team of engineers and technicians and coordinate their efforts to insure that the system design and implementation is appropriate for the physics of the system. The physicist will be expected to work on efforts ranging in maturity from fundamental basic research, often coordinating with a university research group, and proof of principle demonstrations through to middle and late stage research and development, and support transition to production. The physicist must work well in a team and be able to fill the principal investigator role on both internal and contract funded research efforts.

They must have strong public speaking skill and be able to communicate complex technical information to both subject matter experts and laymen. They must also be prepared to train and mentor other team members in the specific technical details of new and inventive sensing systems, and translate developing sensor physics into meaningful specifications and requirements for the mechanical, electrical, and systems designs. The physicist will also attend and actively support scientific and technical conferences, symposia, workshops, working team meetings and other venues for presentations of results and development of collaborative research relationships and business development. The Research team consists of a small group of technically-skilled atomic physicists and engineers. The principal responsibility of the group is the development of next-generation atomic clock technology for eventual commercial use. Microsemi is seeking an Experimental Atomic Physicist at Microsemi-FTD's facility based in Beverly, MA. This position will require working in confined spaces of the wing fuel cells and crawling through an opening 17.75"" X 10.00"" in order to get inside the fuel cell. Employment in this position also requires lifting less than 10 pounds, rotation of head/neck, bending and twisting at the waist, walking, crawling, crouching, lying down, standing, kneeling, reaching, climbing/balancing, flexion/extension, contact with sealants and solvents, exposure to noise, working on elevated platforms and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes, hand/arm, and ears. Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities Obtain and read applicable drawings to determine area to be worked.

Obtain necessary sealant, solvent, cleaners, and wipers from hazardous material crib or shop storage area. Install necessary ventilation equipment to supply fresh air in work cavity. Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., scissors lifts, elevated work platforms). Clean tank surfaces using solvents or detergents and water.

Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment while performing work. Clean and adjust seal equipment and insure the equipment is functioning properly. Apply seal and/or topcoat including fillet seal to system components, bushings, fittings that penetrate fuel cells, and tubing ground straps, sealing heads and collars of fasteners.

Apply corrosion preventative seal. Prior to tank closure repair any damaged or incomplete seal, damaged tubing or other system components. Remove all debris and prepare area for inspection.

Apply wing station identification numbers on tank doors using stencils and spray paint and required protective coating prior to closing tank. Install fuel tank closure panels or access doors and fuel quantity measuring stick after all necessary steps are complete and accepted by QA and customer. Perform/assist with leak tests on fuel tanks and test fuel vent systems.

Submit completed job or in-process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence for acceptance or rejection. Apply aerodynamic seal to skin gaps on leading edge and trailing edge panel gaps. Position tool for locating vortex generators on upper panel and apply faying surface seal to base of generator and position on wing per tool.

Perform rework as required per Pick Up, Special Repair, Rejection Tag, Non-Conformance Record, or other authorized instructions. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner (e.g., solvents, thinners, and primers.)   • Job Description: * AREVA is seeking a Fuel Mechanical Dynamic Engineer in Lynchburg, VA. This highly motivated individual is needed to perform various mechanical analysis tasks in support the AREVA Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) fuel designs and related components. Particular areas of work are expected to be: fuel assembly seismic analyses, flow-induced vibration (FIV) and fretting wear assessments, and contribution in various R&D tasks associated with mechanical modelling. This position plays a key role in ensuring high quality products are delivered to customers on-time.

*Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Perform mechanical and structural analysis of fuel assemblies and components, using engineering theory, analytical tools (e.g., finite element analysis), and testing to evaluate dynamic responses and behaviors under various excitation environments.

  • Perform and document calculations to support reload licensing and fuel development activities.

  • Establish mechanical test requirements and evaluate test data.

  • Develop and benchmark fuel assembly models with test data and perform seismic/LOCA (dynamic) or normal operating analyses.
