This position is for an established Drafting Services / Product Definition professional. Produces drawings using relevant tools, positions instructions and comments on drawings, transfers drawing dimensions from computer onto hardcopy.
Produces drawings using computer-assisted drafting systems (CAD) or drafting machines, or by hand using compasses, dividers, protractors, triangles and other drafting devices.
Designs and drafts components, assemblies and packing, and utilizes data management systems to track and report progress of assignments.

Evaluate mechanical and/or electro-mechanical designs for completeness and ensure that the item can be fabricated as designed. Review drawings/models for conformance to the applicable NASA requirements. Examine engineering drawings and models of Aerospace parts, assemblies, and installations to detect errors in design documents. Evaluate information on production drawings or diagrams for accuracy of dimensions and tolerances that promotes the precise and accurate assembly of parts. Work closely with designers to ensure best product results.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential functions)
Perform evaluation of mechanical, electrical, and/or electro- mechanical CAD for completeness and compliance with Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) drawing standard, MSFC-STD-555, MSFC-STD-2806, MSFC Tailoring Standard for the Global Drawing Requirements Manual (GDRM),, and MSFC-STD-3528, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Standard as well as other NASA/Military/Industry documentation including the Global Drawing Requirements Manual (GDRM) in support of MSFC programs/projects.
Evaluate mechanical, electrical, and/or electro- mechanical hardware designs for compatibility to system and subsystem specifications and ensure adequate specifications and procedures are called out for the fabrication of the design.
Perform Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) fit checks of detailed and assembly designs in accordance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.5M.
Advise design personnel regarding drawing and design practices and procedures.
Maintain a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments in the design disciplines drawing/data requirements as well as all interrelated disciplines of the design build team.
Associate's degree or equivalent experience is required.
Minimum of 5 years of electrical/mechanical design or checking experience
Working knowledge of PTC Creo 3.0 is preferred but other systems such as CATIA, Solid Works, Solid Edge or Auto CAD Inventor may be considered
Working knowledge of MSFC-STD-555 and other MSFC design requirements is preferred
Formal certification is required. ASME GD&T certification preferred.

Engineer Design Checker will be supporting the SSC-PAC Network Integration and Engineering Facility (NIEF) as part of KES’s engineering services contract. Will be required to manage multiple active tasks simultaneously with primary focus on direct support to the NIEF’s program task leads. The ability to establish a credible relationship with customers and sponsors is essential as this position requires daily customer interaction.
- Review Installation Requirements Drawings (IRD) per a checklist to insure drawing completeness.

ABOUT THE POSITION
This posting will be used to fill positions in the Development Review Division and Survey Division Map Team. This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources. The Plan Checker I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the probationary period (520 hours worked to 2,080 hours worked) and the training program, which is up to two (2) years, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Plan Checker II.
Education and Experience:
Plan Checker I - Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or a field related to the work. Full-time experience as a plan checker, plan designer or inspector may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

Maintains accurate records, logs and files of plans, plan review status and work performed. Monitors technical developments and legislation related to new materials and new methods of construction; recommends procedural or ordinance changes as appropriate. Prepares reports, correspondence and a variety of written materials.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a personal or County vehicle to visit work sites and attend meetings.
