Mixes polyester resin and hardener according to specifications and applies mixture to repair area, using brush.
Soaks matting in resin mixture and layers matting over repair area to specified thickness. Peels separating film from repair area and washes repair surface with water.
Occasionally secures new panel to repair area, using C-clamp.
Applies and spreads body filler manually to reestablish surface.
Manually files away excess filler to match original contour.
Smooths filler, using air sander.
Cleans repair area with air gun.

Automotive Body Repairer I
Performs various skilled tasks in repairing and painting damaged bodies on a variety of motor vehicles, including school buses, dump trucks, fire apparatuses and equipment. Straightens, repairs or replaces damaged vehicle sections. Operates power drills, grinders, air cutters, welding and cutting torches, paint spray guns, sanders and a variety of hand tools. Sands, primes and paints a finished body or a complete vehicle and equipment. Installs reflectors and mirrors; adjusts doors, hoods, trunks and seat tracks. Prepares estimates for repair of damaged vehicles to include cost of parts and labor.
NOTE: This position is classified as essential. The appointee is required to report to work during times of inclement weather or other emergencies. The work hours for this position will be day shift (5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.); position is located at the department's Newington Facility. Work is performed under limited supervision.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the tenth grade and three years of experience in the body repair and painting of damaged motor vehicles. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required at the time of appointment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a set of personal hand tools common ly used in the repair section to which appointment is made.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on an average of once daily; stoop, bend, twist, and reach many times daily; use ladders extensively; use creeper or get on hands and knees several times daily. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities Assists higher level mechanic in repairing boats
, other watercrafts and related equipment, performing preparatory tasks such as sanding, base painting, mixing compounds, and under direction cleans boat components, engine parts, and assists in installation of rudders and center boards, etc. Performs routine preventive maintenance of watercrafts and general handyman tasks around the Marina and Outdoor Recreation facilities, including water craft above and below waterline (the latter requiring use of snorkeling equipment) and docks such as replacing bang rails, etc.
Maintains recreation area, facilities (including Camping and Picnic areas) and equipment in the proper condition, removing trash, policing restrooms, and emptying contents into dumpster. Provides information concerning the use of equipment, facilities and operation. Ensures only authorized patrons use recreation area, facilities and equipment.
May assist in maintaining routine reports and/or perform clerical duties as needed. May operate a cash register, receive payments and make change. Performs operational checks and maintenance of outdoor rental equipment, correcting simple malfunctions such as replacing mask/snorkel straps, propane lantern mantels, sewing of tent rips/tares.
Operates assigned vehicles to transport supplies and materials to work sites. Ensures that safety procedures are followed. Works under the supervision of the Marina Manager who provides direction on overall work to be accomplished, priorities, and guidance on non-routine assignments.
Work is performed under the technical direction of a senior mechanic. Works both indoors, outdoors, and in water, including exposure to the elements, paint vapors and fumes, scrapes and cuts. Maybe required to handle hazardous material.
