Tooling Engineer / Automotive Plant

Job Introduction

The Tooling Engineer ) must demonstrate experience in the planning and construction of medium and large sheet metal dies. Must have a sophisticated understanding of automation, dies, equipment and metal technology as it relates to the automotive industry.
Experience with Class A stamping and large sheet metal dies a must. 
Major Responsibilities

•Follow and enforce all safety policies and procedures

•Responsible for direct contact to OEM development and planning group for new product development, feasibility, SE and change management.

•Responsible for development of initial process concept including developments, optimized blank sizes and preparation of such for presentation to team and Customers.

•Responsible to ensure product and process meet required SE parameters for formability >20% thinning. Process must be in control and capable to meet customer required tolerance CPK < />

•Responsible for preparing RFQ’s with the Business Manager (or designee)and sending to assigned toolshops to obtain tooling quotes for new programs or engineering changes to existing programs.

•Responsible for die design review and follow up with designated tool shop to ensure tools meet required standards and timelines as defined by the program milestones.

•Responsible for all pre production CPMP/APQP requirements, FMEA, Control plan and Manufacturing quality and work instruction development.

•Assures appropriate documentation of process (A & B layouts), equipment and systems.

•Responsible to work closely with Assembly Process Engineer in a cross functional environment to ensure all stampings delivered to Assembly meet the required specifications.

•Responsible to follow assigned tools through home line try-out ,PPAP process and SOP +90 days with smooth transition and hand off to Manufacturing.

•Responsible to monitor that all project gates are maintained and escalate all project related problems to the Program Manager in a timely manner.

•Responsible to work closely with Business Manager and Sales coordinators to prepare quotations.

•Responsible to support the Program Manager with all required tracking and reporting documentation as required.

•Supports production with respect to Engineering.

•Supports the Unified Effort Within Cosma.

•Promote good housekeeping (5S).

•Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge and Education

•Bachelor Degree in a technical related discipline and/ or 5 plus years related automotive experience with sound understanding of BIW build fit & function. 

•Must have an understanding in the following areas: Die / die process, assembly tooling, welding & sealer applications, CMM & datum alignment, data processing & reporting, customer tolerancing concepts, working knowledge of catia V4/V5.

Job Description

Purpose of Position: To ensure tooling and equipment needs derived from change management, process requirements, CI-activities and additional inputs are implemented within safety, quality, timing, and cost targets. The position supports a controlled and standardized approach for the overall implementation and plant wide communications.

  • Reviews new tooling requirements as coming from SP Assembly Line planners within their respective areas.

  • Capable of hands-on fabrication of small tools, racks, etc. also in conjunction of machine shop tools. Provides for Team of Competence "Schraubtechnik" (Screwing Technologies) in Germany.
  • Supports MY and MOPF impact studies for SP, Pilot, AF, and Process Engineering.
  • Provides implementation timing to SP Assembly Line Planners.
  • Provides contact for special short-term projects as deemed important by management.
  • Prepares and participates in product review trials when necessary.
  • Supports Production on the shop floor to verify equipment readiness status and monitors any build concerns during Null Series, PT's, Launch, and Change Implementation.
  • Creates and maintains a tooling and equipment overview and database.
  • Prepares information for change reviews and presents status in meetings.
  • Provides information for required departmental reports and scorecards.
  • Organizes internal and external meetings to clarify definition of problems and reports findings.
  • Follows and ensures all affected rules, policies, and laws concerning safety and security.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or in a related Technical Field required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: a Minimum of 3 years relevant professional experience in an automotive engineering oriented environment manufacturing setting with strong emphasis on equipment and tooling projects, project management and strong hands-on capabilities.

Necessary Skills: Knowledge in PC Applications (WORD, EXCEL, MS Project, PowerPoint); ability to work in Team Environment

Preferred Skills:

Ability to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing.

Work experience in Equipment and tooling related issues; Experience in Project Management and in leading problem solving groups.

Summary

The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible to manage ongoing Sharp business with Ford/GM and its OEM/Tier-1rsquo;s but will not be limited to these customers.
