Clearwater Paper Corporation is seeking experienced Machine Tenders and Back Tenders to support paper machine operations in our Shelby, NC plant. Successful candidates will have a minimum of one (1) year consistent industrial manufacturing experience as a machine operator and experience troubleshooting industrial machinary. Candidates with experience working on a paper machine is preferred.

Key responsibilities are not limited, but include:
Ability to work 12 hour rotating shift
Troubleshoot equipment to resolve issues on machine
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Familiar with Lockout/Tagout policies as well as Confine Space policies
Assist with control room operating duties, such as blade changes and machine sheet breaks

This position requires working in all areas of the paper machine. Continuous walking/standing, climbing stairs and working on catwalks, lifting upto 50lbs, bending and stooping will be required. The environment is hot, humid and loud. There are slipping, tripping and falling hazards, as well as in running nips and suspended loads. Compressed air, steam, lubrication oil and hydraulic fluid will be used in the paper machine area. Travel for this position is minimal, but may be occasionally required. Overtime is required to complete critical tasks and meet deadlines.

This position is responsible for leading a production shift and promotes teamwork to ensure that safety, quality, customer service, production, housekeeping and record keeping standards are maintained at all times. Fully capable of performing all operating team functions and is a recognized papermaking expert.
Primary responsibilities include:
Owns personal and team safety. Observes all safety procedures and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
Follows GMP's and other appropriate manufacturing regulations/guidelines.
Manages the papermaking operating team. Reports directly to the FQT Operations Manager. Is the primary operations interface with the Paper Machine support engineers.
Operates the paper machine safely, competently, and productively.
Maintains capabilities to operate the DCS along with the Process Operator.
Ensures quality and workmanship standards are met for the products being produced.
Maintains an on shift operating team logbook.
Ensures shift-to-shift communication is established and maintained. Ensures best practices are uniform shift-to- shift.
Audits area housekeeping and keeps the machine and surrounding areas visitor-ready at all times.
Ensures all raw materials and operating supplies are available.
Develops and maintains operating procedures and ensures all SOP's are followed by the team.
Troubleshoots problems and directs necessary adjustments to the machine and the process.
Properly trains the Process/Assistant Process Operators and other team members as required.
Ensures process and product quality checks are performed as required.
Examines defects and scrap causes and takes appropriate corrective action to eliminate.
Ensures production delays and process lost time causes are entered into the downtime reporting system.
Ensures production reports are accurate.
Assists maintenance personnel as needed. Initiates maintenance work orders as required.
Leads all operating shutdown work.
Assists Tissue Operation Manager with team member performance reviews.
Shows up for work ready to work every day.
Understands the business and the impact of his/her position.
Maintains the security of the building and the operation.

This position will have the opportunity to demonstrate ownership and lead initiatives designed to drive continuous and step change improvement in our corrugated medium paper machine operation. This position is responsible for creating a strong safety culture and work environment, executing and continuously improving the quality, productivity, efficiency and cost of the operation. The Machine Superintendent must be a strong leader with a knowledge of the paper making process, paper machines, supporting equipment and paper making skills.

The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Paper Science or related field with five plus year's operations experience within the paper industry including three plus year's supervisory experience, however candidates with ten plus years' progressive and practical paper making experience including five plus years' paper machine supervisory experience will be considered.
