Goodwill currently has an opening for a Baler. The Baler has the responsibility of baling clothing, shoes, purses or plush, stacking and unstacking gaylords and loading trucks when bales of clothing, purses and plush, and/or other salvage items are sold or shipped out.
Operate top loading clothing baler.
Operate fork lift
Operate pallet jack
Must be able to work unsupervised. Filling hopper of baler. Tying off baler with provided wire, removing completed bales with forklift and stacking in warehouse. Loading trucks when bales of clothing, shoes, purses or plush are sold. Responsible for emptying poly-bulk trucks or gaylords of donated goods that are to be warehoused for later use.
Maintain cleanliness of warehouse.
Orderly structure of contents in warehouse.
Complete salvage invoices.
Must be able to produce one completed bale per hour pace when working without interruption.
If no bailing duties are available then baler would work in the warehouse or as an assistant to a driver performing pickups.
High school diploma or GED and /or one to three months of related experience.
Fork lift certification required.
Ability to read simple instructions required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear. Lifting, pushing and pulling are performed 85% of the time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally push or pull 500 lbs. utilizing a wheeled container or pallet jack. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Can sometimes be exposed to hot and cold temperature conditions. Baler Operator Tracking Code 37730 Job Description Tend machines that shred and/or compresses and binds paper by-products generated from the print manufacturing process to facilitate disposition of the waste materials. Thread tie bands around bale and twists or clamps ends of bands to tighten bands.
Opens compression chamber doors and removes bale from machine. Truck bales to storage location using air lifts, pallet jacks or hoist trucks. Complete daily forklift condition report.
Weight the bales and keep records of the gross weight, materials grade of the bales. Perform routine maintenance on the baling machinery and remove obstructions in the cyclone as needed. May load bales on trucks, rail cars for disposal and complete shipping manifest.
May photograph container and seal for verification purposes. Requires knowledge of standard set ups, adjustments and operating characteristics of the equipment and skill to perform standard adjustments and operate the equipment. Ability to set up, operate, and perform basic adjustments to the equipment according to the individual job requirements, operating characteristics, and capabilities of the equipment.

Essential Functions and
Continuously perform all required tasks in a safe manner, adhering to all established safety rules and procedures. Must take immediate action to correct and/or report any unsafe conditions and hazards.
Safely execute daily job activities including, but not limited to, 1) complete pre-shift truck inspections, 2) perform lockout/tagout for baler equipment, 3) follow confined space procedure for entering baler pit area. Keep work area clean and organized, per standards. Follow all applicable food service policies and procedures.
Follow all PPE policies, wearing steel toed shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, hair nets/beard nets, etc. as required. Ensure confined space permit is obtained prior to cleaning out pit baler – see Shift Supervisor or Compliance Manager. Pull carts from paper production area and bring to baler.
Weigh all waste per procedure. Properly sort waste into proper waste streams. Report exceptions to waste reduction efforts to Shift Supervisor.
Empty all trash bins each shift. Load and unload trucks as needed. Clean warehouse per schedule.
Drive forklift daily as needed. Complete daily waste reports. Meet/achieve waste reduction goals set by management.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management. Candidate

Prior factory work is a plus but not required. Must have basic reading, math and communication skills. Required to operate forklift.
