Barley Elevator Specialist
The Elevator Specialist assists the Elevator Supervisor with the receiving, shipping, cleaning, storage, and quality control of malt and seed barley. Various responsibilities of the Specialist may require work to be done safely in adverse conditions and environment, such as confined space, elevated work stations, and temperature extremes. They also assist with the logistics, handling, and distribution of seed to Coors customers. Specialists assist the Supervisor with maintenance of rolling stock, elevator machinery, and buildings. They also share in the responsibilities of maintaining specific housekeeping specifications on Coors buildings and grounds. The position is expected to be able to maintain accurate elevator records, inventories, and other documentation by being competent in the use of a computer and office software. The Specialist must be able to assume all supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Elevator Supervisor.
Education level and/or experience
- High school degree required. Three (3) to five (5) years experience in grain elevator operations preferred.
Skills and/or knowledge
- Proficient computer skills (Windows 2008, Microsoft Word, Excel)SAP and departmental Barley and Inventory software
Mechanically inclined with ability to identify and solve problems quickly.
Pesticide license (required for seed treatment
Must not be afraid of heights
Heavy lifting is occasionally required.
Work hours are usually days but may vary, especially during barley harvest. Long hours, including weekends, and sometimes night shifts are expected.
Must have good organizational skills
Must be able to work in a safe manner unsupervised
May be asked to temporary relocate to outlying Company transload facilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the efforts of the Early generation in the NA barley breeding program.
Data analysis and summaries; timely variety advancement decisions
Evaluate early generation and advanced material for agronomic, malting and brewing potential.
Supervise Assistant Plant Breeders in the evaluation of barley lines. In-Field variety evaluation.
Integrate the results from various programs, malt quality, pathology, genomics, field trials to identify superior barley genotypes.
Assist ABI's Director of Global Barley Research and other personnel in ABI in determining appropriate strategy for barley development and deployment.
Collaborate with Managers of Malt Quality, Plant Pathology and Genomics to determine best research approaches for barley variety development.
Participate in report preparation by coordinating data summarization and analysis to provide outside personnel information about the breeding program.
Improve plant breeding knowledge through college courses, workshops, seminars, professional meetings and staff training to enhance job performance.
Design and develop new plant breeding methodology and field plot techniques to enhance performance of the breeding program. New technology evaluation.

Completes janitorial tasks such as, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows and restrooms

The Utility Tech is the entry level position among the cross-trained and multi-functioning utility operators. The Utility Tech is required to perform at least one mill operations function as assigned by mill management to maximize plant efficiency. Demonstrates ability to learn and develop mill operations skill sets. Performs work under direct supervision.
- Utility Tech effectively performs at least one (1) mill operation as assigned by mill management to maximize plant efficiency. This includes but is not limited to:
Ingredient Receiving Operations
Inspect and unload bulk ingredients from railcars or trucks into mill process equipment. Perform all required routing and setup of equipment through mill control system.
Grain Processing Operations
Operate machinery to grind, crack or crimp ingredients, including corn, barley and oats, in preparation for use in formulas. Determine quantities, set machines and required routing. May use computerized controls in some locations.
Micro Ingredient Operations
Accurately weigh, measure, package and label smaller quantities of ingredients by hand, including vitamins, minerals and other chemicals, based on specific recipe requirements for use in batching, pelleting or extrusion operations. Utilize hand held scanner and other specialized equipment.
Operate automated packaging equipment and computerized controls to ensure bags are properly filled with product, sewn, tagged and dated. Properly route for storage or delivery.
Bulk Loadout Operations
Load bulk delivery vehicles as assigned and per truck loading orders. Utilize mill process equipment to load feed from holding bins to the truck compartments. May use computerized controls at some locations.
Other Plant Operations as management designates, such as but not limited to assisting maintenance mechanics with preventative maintenance or warehousing operations loading and unloading feed and ingredients.
For those operations identified, maintain effective working knowledge of production procedures and assume full responsibility for operational requirements, including communication, documentation, efficiency and scheduling, and maintenance. Effectively utilize the proper tools and equipment to complete assignments, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
Demonstrate initiative to develop new operations skills. Participate in training opportunities offered by Southern States to increase familiarity with facility and learn procedures for performing additional mill operations.
Comply with requirements of the Quality Control (QC) Program in each operation performed. Immediately notify your QC Supervisor or another member of management of any suspected problem with product quality. Review and comply with QC Manual bulletins relative to assigned operations.
Maintain clean and orderly work area by keeping tools and equipment in proper places and all materials off the floor. Perform all related cleaning and sanitizing of equipment. Properly dispose of waste material. Be proactive with cleaning efforts as facility may receive non-company personnel. Follow all requirements of mill Housekeeping, Quality Control and HACCP Plans.
Work safely as to not cause harm to yourself, co-workers, equipment, or inventory. Comply with OSHA regulations, Southern States Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards, work rules and policies.
Perform all other job functions as assigned.

Essential Job Functions
A Line Cook at Blasted Barley must have knowledge of food preparation as well as a passion for food and the restaurant industry. The role is responsible for all food preparation, cooking methods, procedures and timing to ensure that all food product adheres to the specifications and quality standards of Blasted Barley. Must be efficient and adaptive in a fast-paced work environment.
A Prep Cook at Blasted Barley must have also have the same food preparation knowledge listed above. Ability to read and follow recipes that meet the quality and food standards set by our chefs. Working in a fast paced environment and have a friendly positive attitude while maintaining effective communication skills with co-workers.
Both positions report to the Executive Kitchen Manager and will assist is maintaining par levels and check for discrepancies in managing food stock. Adhering to a safe, clean working environment for all kitchen staff is strongly emphasized.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Previous experience in a high volume restaurant is preferred. A food handler’s card issued by the Maricopa County Board of Health must be current and available on start date. Must be able to speak and understand some English.
Able to stand for long periods of time. Be able to bend, reach, lift up to 60 lbs., scoop, and squat on a frequent basis. Must be able to continuously use hands and fingers to operate equipment, prepare and plate food. Able to see color, depth, periphery, and distance.
