Job Purpose Reports directly to and works under the supervision of a Production Supervisor. A Manual Engine Lathe Operator machines locomotive and transit assemblies in accordance with AAR, customer specifications, company guidelines and checklists. Responsibilities include: • Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with PRS safety policies; • Operates CNC machines and manual machines including bar mill, engine lathes, and manual grinders to produce locomotive and transit assemblies; • Use precision gauges and instruments such as micrometers to determine and follow customers’ specifications; • Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, conditional switches; and calculating requirements; • Maintain specifications by observing, drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes; • Operates overhead cranes and forklifts; • Perform other duties as requested or required by Supervisor. Manual Lathe Operator - 1St Shift
Performs set up, adjustments and operation of CNC controlled lathe equipment with minimal supervision. Must be capable of holding exact tolerances by working from blueprints, sketches, process sheets and verbal/written instructions running stepped diameters, tapers, angles, etc. Has the ability to use computer printouts for proper sequencing of machine setups, selecting and placing tooling and fixtures, while establishing proper feeds, speeds and cycle of machines. Inspection of work utilizing certified operator program. Has the ability to utilize a wide variety of precision measuring instruments to perform checks on parts. Overtime generally required.
