You will utilize a strong theoretical and working knowledge of cathode, anode, electrolyte, and separator materials, as well as how these components work together to make a high performance cell. You will also be familiar with testing and analysis techniques used to characterize battery devices and materials. Design, develop, validate and analyze lithium-ion cell components, assemblies, and specifications.
Define the critical cell process parameters and inspection methods in order to resolve manufacturing process issues.
Test cells and batteries for impedance, cycle life, swelling and failure modes. Write test procedures for the operation of cell/battery testers (Arbin, Maccor).
Perform statistical analysis of cell process data.
Select, characterize and validate lithium-ion cell materials (active materials, additives, electrodes, separators, electrolytes, etc.). ## Qualifications Minimum qualifications: * MS in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field or equivalent practical experience. * 3 years of industrial experience in the lithium-ion battery field. Preferred qualifications:
PhD in a related field
Experience with the development of products for large volume production in a structured environment with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methods.
Experience with developing technical specifications for components and assemblies.
Demonstrated experience with electrochemical characterization (cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, cycle life testing, and abuse testing) * Understanding of safety and reliability testing required for UN and UL certification. Understanding protection circuit and BMU design for Li-ion batteries.

Overview NO RECRUITERS OR THIRD PARTY AGENCIES The Cell Applications Engineer is responsible supporting customers in the direct use of individual A123 battery cells and also for High Voltage and/or Low Voltage battery pack assemblies.
