Lab experience: Use hand tools, power tools, personal protection equipment (PPE), and work in a common, mixed-use space with other users. Learn new hands-on fabrication and testing skills as needed. Pay careful attention to detail and maintain creativity. Work independently with little supervision. Specific experience with glovebox use, battery materials and processes, electrode processing, battery cell/pack assembly, and/or battery testing/characterization is a plus.
Project management: Demonstrate responsibility for quality, cost management, and on-time delivery. At a minimum, applicants will need to manage tasks or specific statements of work within a program. Past experience in the following areas is a plus: government contract management, customer interface, and proposal and grant writing.

Battery Systems Modeling Engineer (20180458)
SUMMARY: In this position, you will be part of a team developing new class of algorithms, architectures and products to improve the utility of batteries for motive, Energy Storage Systems and other applications. In this position you will be expected to use a combination of advanced electrical system modeling, mathematics, and data analysis techniques to develop models of battery systems capable of predicting battery behavior in a variety of application scenarios. You will develop and validate algorithms for estimation of State of Charge and State of Health of the battery systems (both Lead-Acid and Lithium-ion chemistries). You will also design and perform tests to characterize battery behavior and degradation through thermal factors, usage patterns and aging.
The battery systems modeling engineer filling this position will be required to demonstrate detailed and in-depth technical knowledge and expertise in the following disciplines:
Expertise with modeling and analysis software such as Matlab/ Simulink, R, JMP, and/or Scientific Python (preferable).
Experience in writing efficient codes to analyze large data sets.
Good understanding of how battery systems work is a plus.
Experience validating electrical models, preferably batteries and energy storage models, using experimental lab data and field data.
Experience with methods of modelling/simulating stochastic systems.
Experience developing equivalent circuit methods to model electrochemical systems.

The Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), a Directorate of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Stanford University, and a national research facility, has a temporary employment opportunity for Researcher with interests and experience in the application of epitaxial thin film deposition, including pulsed laser deposition, for energy storage materials and interfaces. Project initiatives at SSRL include energy storage interface sciences and next generation high voltage lithium-ion batteries. This position will conduct research in the area of preparation and characterization of pulsed laser deposited epitaxial thin films for operando and in situ battery characterization, in particular regarding cathode-electrolyte interfaces under oxidizing conditions.

Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and the ability to operate passenger vehicles and trucks with automatic and manual transmissions.
Two (2) years' experience in a sales/customer service environment.
Ability to pass a physical examination required by the Department of Transportation and maintain the certificate for the duration of employment in the position.

Responsible for performing periodic maintenance, repair, replacement and limited troubleshooting on batteries; in accordance to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes. Must be safety conscious to avoid being injured by acid, fumes or electric shock; and must understand the risk of chemical explosions.
1.Interpret and understand plans and specifications, schematics, operating and maintenance manuals. Perform required tasks in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures, rules, and safety procedures.
a. Ensure all protective equipment is worn at all times when working with batteries (face shield with splash guard, safety glasses, apron and acid-resistant gloves).b. Ensure all safety/hazardous precautions are followed for battery changing procedures, battery washing procedures and neutralizing chemical spills.
2.Responsible for all distribution center batteries, which includes monitoring and trending, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. A daily checklist must be maintained and complete.
i. Inspect chargers, stands and racksii. Complete daily battery changer checklistiii. Report any safety/hazardous conditions to management immediately
3.Responsible for battery charger repairs, battery changes for MHE, repair of plugs and tips of batteries and chargers, watering and washing batteries, acid spill cleanup, etc.4. Conduct hazmat clean up in accordance with the current drum program.5. Conduct preventive maintenance (PM's) within manufacturer's guidelines/specifications and established timelines. 6. Observe and/or test the adjustments, repairs or modifications to ensure safe operation.7. Responsible for logging time and materials, maintaining work orders, PMs and inventory tracking into computerized maintenance management system/software.8. Assist material handling equipment (MHE) maintenance in repairs, and preventive maintenance, to ensure forklifts/MHE are operational.9. Assist conveyor maintenance in repairs and preventive maintenance, to ensure productivity is not compromised during peak periods.10. Assist general maintenance in performing building maintenance repair to various systems, including electrical, plumbing, fire safety, dock doors, rack installations, etc.11. Maintain spare parts inventory, order replacements, and prepare routine updates to maintenance records and reports.12. Responsible for the operation of the distribution center's sweeper scrubber.13. Perform other general maintenance tasks as assigned.
Must be willing and able to work an evening shift schedule and overtime as needed.
