Battery Chemist Postdoctoral Scholar (Energy Storage & Distributed Resources)
Position Summary: The Battery Chemist Postdoctoral Scholar will work in Energy Storage and Distributed Resources division at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL) and carry out multidisciplinary research in the development of next-generation battery materials.
This position requires capabilities in inorganic material synthesis, advanced material and comprehensive electrochemical characterization. What You Will Do: Perform material design and synthesis of Li-ion battery cathodes via solid state and solution chemistry.
Characterize the materials using X-ray crystallography, scanning electron microscopy etc. to understand crystal structure and morphology. Use appropriate advanced characterization techniques (e.g. transmission electron microscopy, synchrotron radiation etc.) for the in-depth understanding of material properties for battery application. Evaluate the battery performance using various electrochemical techniques.
Analyze the experimental results, prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations, and present results in internal and external meetings. Carry out collaborative research with research associates, postdoc fellows, visiting scientists and students with regular meetings and discussions. Coordinate laboratory equipment development and maintenance.
Support and contribute to the development of research project ideas and proposals. Follow all the safety requirements to maintain the laboratory operation. Additional Responsibilities as needed:

Recent Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or similar field. Strong demonstrated experience in inorganic material synthesis and processing, both Strong background in material characterization techniques. Knowledge of electrochemistry and lithium-ion battery materials, and cell testing is highly preferred.
Ability to work independently toward meeting goals, solving problems, and developing scientific ideas. Ability to initiate collaborations and participate in collaborative efforts as a member of a diverse team. Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Primary Responsibilities Internal Deadline to Apply of July 24th, 2017. Define and lead grid battery power storage solutions for customer application. Support and lead proposals in response to customer specifications, RFP / RFQ, and technical information requests for grid battery storage analysis. Tasks Performed

The successful candidate will work closely with other teams of LG Chem including those in the US and in South Korea. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Perform optimal battery sizing using battery performance, thermal and aging models. This includes analyzing customer load profiles and tailoring the sizing for the particular profile.
Perform the role of a technical customer account manager. Customer accounts typically range from the several hundred thousand to multi-million dollars, and are in all ESS markets. In this role, the successful candidate will need to understand customer requirements and objectives, generate technical designs and proposals, and answer customer questions. In-depth understanding of LG Chem’s electrical, mechanical and software sub-systems and how LG Chem’s batteries are integrated into ESS products is required.
Develop expertise on local codes & standards at battery and system level (e.g. NFPA 70, UL 9540), and understand their impact on LG products (existing and future).
Be a technical lead with assigned equipment partners/suppliers, such as enclosure system providers and power electronics manufacturers.
Define next generation technical product requirements based on customer interactions, local codes and standards, competitor analysis and trends in ESS components such as power electronics, thermal management and enclosures.

Each weekday, customers board Metro Transit buses and trains an average of 240,000 times. The light rail system consists of a fleet of 86 light-rail vehicles. We are looking for Track Maintainers to provide track maintenance and inspection activities that comply with the safety requirements prescribed in the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and Metro Transit rules and practices.
Duties include inspection, repair and replacement of tracks. Examples of Duties Maintains and repairs tracks, turnouts, at-grade crossings, rail lubrication machines and other mechanicalsystems on track structure. Conducts and records track, turnout and joint inspections.
Replaces areas of concrete or timber ties, turnouts, and track fastenings. Operates small tools and equipment (rail saw, rail drill and spiking equipment) Assists with track surfacing, alignment and gauging operations. Assist in emergency situations.
Attends safety and training meetings. Operates hi-rail vehicles, and other vehicles used with track maintenance, inspection and recording, wheel/skid steerloaders, vacuum trucks, rail grinders, track tamper and ballast regulators.
