Mission Critical Battery Technician
Point of Contact (POC) and Subject Matter Expert for stationary battery systems for various customers. To include the execution of Preventative and Predictive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance and Warranty work.
Inspects stationary power systems and their associated controls. Typical systems include but are not limited to UPS systems, electrical switchgear, and telco/PBX
Work with other ABT Technicians involved in the maintenance, installation, and inspection of Vented Wet Cell (flooded) and VRLA (sealed) battery systems and their related components
Inspects battery charging and monitoring equipment to insure they are operating correctly
Maintains operating service records for all preventative maintenance activities
May occasionally be assigned other duties to assist other technicians, larger projects and/or customer emergencies.
Candidate must be able to take direction, follow Company procedures, work safely, and be punctual. Technician will be working on sensitive power equipment in hazardous electrical environments so attention to detail and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safely service equipment is a must. The candidate must also have proficient computer skills, strong written and oral commutation skills, professional attitude and appearance, and an outgoing personality. Work is generally scheduled during normal business hours. However, the candidate must have flexible schedule as some evening and weekend work is required. Cell phone, safety equipment, and certain service tools are provided, as well as use of company vehicle.
Examples of Duties:
Maintains, inspects, installs and cleans batteries
Takes voltage, internal resistance, temperature and specific gravity readings
Fill batteries with de-ionized water
Installation of stationary battery specific racks and spill containment
Performs discharge tests on battery strings utilizing specific equipment
Performs storage/maintenance battery recharging under controlled conditions
Keep detailed service records
Participate in continuing education training
Maintains operational proficiency with the following instruments:
Digital Multi-meter/clamp meter (Fluke)
Battery Test Equipment (Alber CRT-400/Midtronics)
Load Bank equipment (Eagle Eye)
Digital Hydrometer (Anton Parr)
Microsoft Office and related software
Battery installation equipment
4-year college degree or equivalent, technical degree preferred but not required
3-5 years of proven experience in a stationary battery field service technician role
Experience with the installation of both flooded and VRLA battery systems
Requires strong written and oral communication skills
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex technical instructions, plans blueprints, and schematic diagrams
Experience with multiple battery testing/management software
Strong working knowledge of NEC, maintenance practices, maintenance and supply procedures, and quality control procedures
Working Conditions / Physical Demands:
Frequently communicates by phone, email, text or in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
Will frequently work in outdoor weather conditions or inside a customer job-site where safety equipment must be worn.
Ability to adapt to different warehouse temperatures and environments.
Operate company vehicle and maintain an inventory of company supplied tools and equipment
Travel by air and/or car is required to ABT locations and customer work sites across the country, with exposure to industrial noise, temperature extremes, and chemicals, along with scheduled on-call requirements.

The Power Electronics and Battery division is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, building, and testing the electrical power components in the Hyperloop system. These components include variable frequency drives for propulsion and levitation, energy storage systems, power distribution systems, and the associated control hardware and control algorithms. We are seeking candidates to lead the high voltage battery systems development at our Los Angeles facility for one of the most challenging transportation applications on Earth.
Lead battery cell selection and battery control system architecture and development. Ensure designs meet the functional, performance and safety requirements of passenger hyperloop systems
Lead battery cell testing and modeling. Develop cell performance trade-off and limits
Lead advanced BMS design and algorithms development

The Cell Characterization Lab is expanding. We are looking for a test technician to help set up, run, and maintain the cell level cycle and storage testing of lithium-ion cells. This technician will assist in the upkeep and general maintenance of the lab. This technician will be a hands-on builder type personality who has strict attention to detail. Ideally, the candidate will have some testing experience in a lab setting as well as basic machine shop skills.
Maintain and execute lithium-ion cell tests using specialized test equipment.
Organization of test data into a public database.
Design and build fixtures for battery testing.
Maintain ovens and temperatures chambers in the battery lab
Associate or Bachelor Degree in a technical field, or equivalent in work experience is preferred.
Strict attention to detail
Understanding of lithium-ion battery safety and dangers
Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills particularly with large amounts of electronic data
Working knowledge of Excel
Previous use of ARBIN or MACCOR equipment or similar electrical test equipment
Soldering, crimping, small fixture building, and design
Familiarity with electronic circuits
Above average manual dexterity and average visual acuity are required in order to perform delicate assembly tasks.
Experience working with and testing lithium-ion batteries a plus
