Description Journeyman Mold Maker II
Lead projects to build, repair and modify high-quality injection mold tooling from complex part and mold designs. Diagnose issues that cause Molds to function poorly or cause quality issues. Essential
Train and guide assigned helpers as needed to ensure a Safe working environment.
Attend kick-off meetings and provide input for design and mold build.
Plan and schedule jobs to meet quoted hours and delivery dates.
Prepare needed prints and instructions to coordinate helpers as needed.
Clearly communicate to determine the most efficient method of manufacture to Engineering.
Complete paperwork or instructions for additional details to be performed for mold assembly.
Assess completed jobs for improvements with necessary personnel for future efficiency.
Maintain a clean work area.
Clean equipment and machines after use and recommend any maintenance to Shop Supervisor.
Work overtime or other shifts per delivery and customer requirements.
Additional responsibilities as may be assigned by Shop Supervisor.
Education or Experience (in years): * High school diploma
Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a Journeyman
Completion of a State Approved / Formal Apprenticeship Knowledge and skills:
Knowledge of plastic injection molds and mold making practices
Efficient at programming and running all shop machinery (CNC machining centers, High- Speed-Milling, EDM sinker, WEDM a plus, etc.) * Good written and verbal communication skills
Computer skills, for inter-office email and job communication * CNC programming skills [MasterCAM is preferred] * Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills on Molds
Ability to lead Projects to completion with timely updates on progress
Work cooperatively with fellow employees in a team environment
Thorough knowledge of inspection equipment and techniques

POSITION OVERVIEW Develops, builds, modifies and repairs molds and dies used in the manufacturing and support processes.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Expected to assist in the implementation of EHS Values and policy statements and accompanying principals.
Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EHS regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans, fabricates and constructs tooling such as wax injection molds, casting part holding fixtures and gauges that are used in wax injection, cutting, waterjet, grinding, CMM and other various pre and post cast operations from ferrous or non-ferrous metals and materials utilizing various types of precision machine shop equipment and hand tools with little or no supervision.
Interprets casting blueprints, castings and various part dimensions to allow for proper construction of tooling, fixtures and gauges.
Plans and carries out the repair or modifications of molds and tooling including the most delicate and complex.
Performs all set-ups of machine shop equipment and molds utilizing their knowledge of machine shop practices and procedures
Ability to disassemble and repair re-assemble wax injection molds that are very complex
Generates Vertical Machining Center CNC cutter paths for various tools to design intent.
Estimates construction and repair time for various tooling work
Completes the tool build to the design intent. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED All types of precision machine shop equipment, including wire EDM and Optical Comparator. Includes CNC programming.

Disassemble molds and determine parts needing to be repaired or replaced.
Clean mold plates and all components.
Check for proper gating, venting and cooling of mold.
Record and maintain all maintenance documentation as required.
Polish cavities and cores to specified finishes.
Must be able to troubleshoot and analyze problems with molds.
Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and schematics relating to molds.
Have the ability to use all measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, travel dials, and their applications) to measure and determine proper mold and component fits and tolerances within .0002” to .0005”.
Wire molds and read an OHM meter to understand basic electrical issues in diagnosing heater and thermal couple failures.
Construct or rebuild mold components per prints, using any or all machine tools available in Mold Repair area as well as the Tool Room.
Assemble mold and components maintaining proper dimensional tolerances.
Maintains an extremely clean and safe work area with an emphasis on 5”s.
Participate in continuous improvement activities.

Job Introduction Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on stamping dies and assembly tooling as needed
, always striving to improve the quality of workmanship and time taken to complete assigned work.
1.To work in a safe, quality minded, and productive manner with a sense of urgency to achieve tool room dead lines and to attain production priorities as scheduled. 2.Perform tooling repair using various methods of machining and hand work. 3.Operates various tool room machining equipment and welding operations. 4.Attend daily pre-shift meetings and carry out assigned work loads as directed by shift/area leaders. 5.Communicates with tool room manager and tool room Area/Shift leaders, and other plant personnel about tool room concerns, providing complete action plans and status reports as and when required. 6.Assists in the implementations and improvement of effective preventive maintenance programs for all tooling equipment. 7.Follows and supports Victor Manufacturing’s and Magna’s operating principles 8.Supports efforts to achieve department and plant goals on Employee Opinion Survey. 9.Ensures all documentation is maintained, including associate documentation. 10.Works with vendors and/or contractors, displaying company values of honesty and integrity. 11.Work with all shifts in design and development of improving methods and equipment through continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles. 12.Performs tool room duties as required. 13.May be required to adjust shifts as necessary
Knowledge and Education Must have high school diploma or GED

Major Responsibilities · Build and assist in developing one-of-a kind models from verbal or written communication that may include sketches, assembly drawings or detailed drawings. · Plan and perform the necessary work required to complete projects. · Provide input on the completed model to the engineer. Completed prototypes must meet or exceed the appearance and quality of a production part or product. · Set up and operate all necessary tooling and machines mentioned in knowledge and skills required. · Provide time and cost estimates for projects. · Understand machine and cutting tool concepts, applications and feeds and speeds. · Assignments would require working with tooling tolerances and model dimension tolerances as specified, (typical production tolerances). · Develop job strategy and sequence of operations. · Develop and prove out manufacturing processes. · Design tools, dies, fixtures, jigs and machines for prototyping and manufacturing.
Design includes finding or determining part specifications, research materials, part material specifications, work required to achieve part such as tonnage, spring back, proper clearances. Request quotes and purchase components to be used. Request quotes from material and component vendors.
Fill out purchase orders for vendors. · Use CAD programs for designing of prototypes,tools, dies, fixtures, jigs and machines. · Build any dies, tooling, or jigs required to make prototypes. · Program CNC equipment in model shop. · Layout dimensions on material to be machined using precision measuring devices, shop mathematics and descriptive geometry when working from drawings. · Ability to perform part layout measurements · Produce standard work instructions, tooling drawings and supporting documentation for projects and equipment being used in model shop. · Acquire quotes from vendor for tools, dies, fixtures, jigs and machines to their own design. Create purchase orders to buy tools, dies, fixtures, jigs and machines. · Assist test lab technician with testing and documentation of testing as needed. · Follow established safety procedures and maintains a clean and organized work area. · Other duties as required.#external*Knowledge & Skills Required · Good working knowledge of Milling machines, lathes, boring machines, surface grinders, drill presses, sheet metal tools, powered brake presses, mechanical presses, hydraulic presses, welding, brazing, sawing machines, measuring devices (optical comparator, micrometers, calipers, gages, scales) and any associated hand tools. · 2 year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4 years suggested minimum experience.
