Under supervision, perform a variety of tasks related to daily Lab operations, surface process or finishing process according to department production guidelines.
Perform department tasks including one or more of the following:
Select lenses/frames for each Rx
Stock lens and/or frame shelves
Sort and deliver trays
Key Rx parameters into LMS
Log, ship, receive orders (frames, supplies, etc)
Operate frame tracing unit
Quality check filled Rx's
Packaging and/or de-boxing lenses
Prepare lenses for AR coating
Initial lens inspection for cosmetic defects
Blocking including prep and taping
Wash up/de-blocking of lenses
Operate surfacing equipment
Operate tool cutter
Perform pin beveling (surface)
Pin beveling operation (Finish)
Hand stone operation including sizing and rolls
Roll and polish
Operating manual drill
Mounting of frames including Zyl, metal and 3 piece
Faceting and edge polishing
Manual edge polishing
Operating auto drill machine
Machine calibration to manufacturer's specifications
Maintain unit standards, processes and procedures to ensure efficient, accurate and measurable results.
Maintain awareness of all unit criteria, i.e., production standards, procedures, etc.

Verifies proper edging parameters and shape. Edges lenses down to the proper size using a computerized roughing/milling machine (edger). Performs support functions within the edging area to include basic upkeep of the area.
Prioritize tray processing flow as dictated by tray color/priority sticker.
Select appropriate job number for processing.
Ability to properly turn on main power, initialize edger startups, perform reboots and recovers from edger/robot errors.
Validate shape display to job in process.
Edge lenses to correct size, bevel location and applies a safety bevel and mount lenses into frame.
Accurately place an appropriate cosmetically acceptable pin bevel on lens.
Accurately place the grove for various lens designs, determine proper blade depth and utilize V-bevel to adjust size or shape of a lens.
Properly identify if slippage has occurred during the edging process.
Test and validate axis, size and bevel placement.
Validate operation, clean lens feelers, adjust sizing, bevel placement and safety bevel.
Perform probe calibration.
Ability to communicate and escalate with peers and principles.
Ensure and maintain the cleanliness of all equipment, workstations and overall facility.
Practice and comply with all requirements of our Quality Management System (QMS), as well as regulations promoting a safe and healthy work place environment.

I. Performs basic shaping process steps on simple to medium difficult parts. Skills include but are not limited to:
Beveling - cup and straight line

Milling - standard milling tasks
Sawing – KLE cut off type operations

Diamond Turning skills include ability to take print and program machine to produce parts of low to medium difficulty within specification
Advanced print reading skills – can read and comprehend all fabrication specs

Teamwork – works effectively within team and across departments. Can provide guidance to Tech I.

A ship fitter contributes to all structural phases of a ship's hull construction which may include fitting, fabricating, assembly and alignment of a ship's structure.
Key Responsibilities & Functional Knowledge
This list is representative of the key areas of responsibility and functional knowledge required of a first class ship fitter in the Plate shop. A first class mechanic must demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the skills, functional knowledge and abilities required to perform tasks in these and related areas of responsibility.
Advanced knowledge means that the mechanic understands how to perform tasks in these categories (including, but not limited to, the specific tasks identified below) and is able to complete them independently and teach others how to complete the tasks. This also means that the mechanic has the necessary level of knowledge of the equipment, protective gear, and machinery required to complete these tasks. A first class mechanic also is expected to strategize independently and problem-solve as appropriate.
o Knowledgeable regarding cutting plate jobs

- Make up Plating
o Align and fit plates
o Ensure strong backing for the plate
o Draw sketches

A Finisher in Repair corrects imperfections created in the casting process. Uses autobody (fiberglass) collision repair methods to remove structural and aesthetic imperfections to ensure the structure is sound and the paint process will go smoothly. This position reports to the 3rd shift Repair Group Lead and is part of a 30 person team on shift and a 90 person team across 3 shifts.
Perform all tasks in a safe manner utilizing all PPE
Read, comprehend, and follow the work instructions given for each repair so work is completed in the correct steps
Use a DA (orbital and random) 6" grinder to remove imperfections and bevel edges of repair area within tolerance
Use hand tools to apply fiberglass, resin, and epoxy to rebuild voids and complete surface preparation for the paint process
Work under pressure to complete work on tight time deadlines
Have a positive attitude, work well with others, and implement constructive criticism
Ability to assess all of the repairs needed and plan the order in which to complete the repairs
Utilize 5S and LEAN principles to ensure their work is being completed as efficiently as possible
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
High School Diploma or GED
1 year of auto body collision repair or industrial grinding experience, or 3 months of experience as a contractor at Siemens in the Repair department required.
Experience comprehending and following written work instructions
Ability to use department PPE including: Tyvex protective suit, mask/shield, Positive Air Pressure Respirator/hood, and gloves.
Ability to go into small spaces inside of the blade to complete repairs
Ability to differentiate colors to see imperfections
Must be able to work 2nd or 3rd shift and be available for overtime on weekdays and weekends
Must pass a background check and UA

Entry-level Bench associate who is responsible for performing any of the various tasks within the Bench department. May not be able to meet expectations performing ALL tasks below and/or may specialize in only specific tasks listed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Deblock – Placed padded block in deblocker and remove block from lens.
Block – Scan barcode on tray. Place padded block in liner, place lens in liner and line appropriately.
Edging – Scan barcode, chuck lens in edger and push start.
Safety Bevel – Roll edges on bevel wheel to eliminate sharpness.
Wash – After loading wash racks, place in ultrasonic for 1 minute, quick rinse, then final rinse.
Insert Lens into Frames – Metal Frame : remove screw, insert lens, replace screw. Zyle Frame: heat frame to expand and insert lens.
Inspection – Check lens for defects, pits, scars. Place lens in topcon. Check for correct power, axis, prism, etc.
Hand Bevel – Edge lens down by hand to reduce size. Take out starts and chips, roll edges.
Safety Stamp – Place lens on appropriate stamp and push down.
Sort Trays – Sort trays for appropriate areas at edging, deblocking, beveling, tinting and insertion
Tint – Place lens in lens holder and tint to specified color.
