Job Summary This position assists technical laboratory staff with set up and preparation for testing in assigned areas of the laboratory. This may include, but is not limited to, testing on specified analyzers, releasing results, specific tasks related to send out tests, dilutions, culture set ups, staining slides, and maintaining supply inventory.
Assists technical staff with performance of testing on various analyzers, utilizing knowledge of specimen collection and rejection policies, as well as general knowledge of instrumentation methodology. Runs two levels of controls for tests, as needed.
Performs basic troubleshooting and communicates technical concerns to technical staff. Communicates critical or abnormal results to patient units and physician offices and documents per defined policy. Investigates and separates specimens for reference laboratory testing.
Performs ordering and set-up of specimens for culturing. Performs basic staining of slides, loading/unloading of blood culture instrument, processing of positive results, inoculation of vials for procedures, and various EIA procedures.
Ensures appropriate preparation of laboratory or blood donor samples, including send out specimens. Verifies patient demographics, payor information and diagnostic test information.
Releases patient results and reports according to department protocols, and completes required documentation, which may include chain of custody.
Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in a science related field, or equivalent related experience in a science related field. Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. May be required to possess a valid drivers license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree in a science related field. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

115534 Specimen Processing is one of the first critical pre-analytical steps in laboratory medicine. Here patient samples are checked for proper identification, specimen integrity, and accessioned into laboratory computer system. Specimens are sorted and distributed to the appropriate testing areas. In addition to the trained personnel that handles specimens, our laboratory has an automated system for specimen handling. This system helps us to enhance our turnaround time performance by moving specimens as needed to centrifuges and then onto an automated delivery track. The laboratory operates 24/7. Specimen processing staff also processes, packs and ships a large volume of specimens that are sent to reference laboratories. In addition the “Call Center” supports the CORE lab for all incoming calls and requests.

The primary responsibility of the Specimen Processing Technician II is to rapidly respond to telephone inquiries from clients, provide rapid telephone reports, accurately order tests, process biological specimens submitted for laboratory testing and ensure client satisfaction. Job Summary The Data/ Specimen Technician is accountable for the handling/storing and processing of irreplaceable clinical trial specimens. The technician will perform a variety of tasks depending on the specific Specimen Management Center Assistant level held and supports the various teams of the Specimen Management.
