POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for the operation, coordination and planning of blasting needs for a surface coal mine. Responsible to ensure that all governmental and company laws and regulations adhered to while minimizing cost and maximizing earnings to the company. Responsible for design and decisions concerning blast hole size, spacing or depth, quantity of explosives in each hole, total quantity of explosives to be detonated and delay periods to be used.
Maintains explosive inventory and shot reports.
Responsible for directing hydraulic drill operation.
Supervises the loading bulk truck with explosives from onsite inventory.
Supervises the placing explosives into drill hole.
Supervises the amount and location of each explosive charge.
Supervises the hole loading using the proper time delay to makes sure shot is fired in a safe and cost effective manner.
Supervises the operation of large explosive truck (8 ton or more) to transport blasting supplies.

Employees are required to maintain molten metal (magnesium) supply in the melt room and holding furnaces at the die cast machines safely and efficiently to support the production requirements and to assure the proper alloy is provided for the parts being cast.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Keep the holding furnaces on the die cast machines full of proper alloy of metal and at proper temperatures. This process, called hauling metal, must be done in a safe, efficient, and timely manner as to keep production running always while minimizing costly mistakes such as overfilling furnaces, overfilling ladles, spilling metal, letting furnaces run too low on metal, mixing alloys, etc.
Keep transfer (bull) ladles properly cleaned and heated.
Keep scrap hoppers emptied and identified.
Keep alloys separated. This applies to all metal including that which is stored, in any furnace, or in scrap form.
Cold clean and repair of breakdown furnaces. This includes jackhammering, cleaning, forming, ramming, casting, painting, etc.
Charge metal to breakdown furnaces in such a way as to keep them full of the proper alloy metal and at the proper temperatures. Metal is charged in form of sows, ingots, castings, and ingredients.
Routine and proper cleaning of all die cast holding furnaces.
Keep area around furnace clean.
Perform alloy changes in any furnace properly.
Run spectrometer including cleaning, profile, standardization, and routine analysis.
Properly handle all department paperwork including labor cards, production sheets, check sheets, metal hauling sheets, barcodes, audit logs, furnace cleaning sheets, scrap cards, flux/dross cards, etc.
Properly handle paperwork, sampling, and barcoding of all incoming metal/materials.
Daily inspection paperwork and safe driving of forklifts.
Keep all melt rooms and work areas clean as well as tools/supplies neat and organized and put in proper locations.
Work in a safe manner and report unsafe conditions/hazards immediately.
Wear required personal protective equipment.
Capable and willing to work overtime.
Participate in training programs deemed necessary by the company.
Perform other associated duties, functions, or work as needed or assigned to continue the productive operation of the company.

Steel Shot Blast Operator
Do you have a mechanical aptitude and a quality background? Harrison Steel has an opening in its finishing operations for an operator for our steel shot blast.
This position is responsible for manually blasting castings to remove any non-steel particles and polish the casting finish by operating a hose that shoots steel shot at 100psi. This position is also responsible for loading and unloading steel castings, cleaning shot after blasting, and refilling the hopper as needed, among other duties.
