Drives and operates one or more machines such as backhoes, grinders, graders, lowboys, roller, jackhammer, compressors, trucks and pavers. To perform specified activity such as moving material, leveling, grading, and paving by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Has working knowledge of equipment operation for machines assigned, including driving.
Checks equipment daily for oil, fluid levels, damage and wear areas (teeth, grinder, etc.). Fuels equipment daily.
Ability to determine speed and direction on machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure.
Thorough understanding of all aspects of paving industry prep work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
Reports all damage or required repairs as needed to the mechanic on duty in a timely manner.
Completes equipment checklist and turns in on a daily basis.
Loads and unloads equipment from trailers. Ensures that equipment is correctly secured on trailers.
Ensures equipment is cleaned at the end of each job, each day.
Operates equipment safely at all times. Does not allow riders on the equipment while operating.
Follows all safety rules and regulations and practices preventive safety measures.
Performs non-operator, general labor work as needed including driving, shoveling, raking, rolling and flagging duties.
Valid Driver's License
Able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
Three to five years related asphalt & construction experience
Must be willing to travel when needed.
Ability to work in a team setting

Commercial Metals Company is very excited about our new micro-mill in Durant, OK! We are currently seeking a Roller to join the CMC Steel Oklahoma Team. The Roller supports the Rolling Mill Supervisor in accordance with all Company policies and standards with an emphasis on safety. This role will operate an overhead crane by remote, operate mobile lifting equipment, and is fully trained in all areas to fill in at various positions when needed.
The main focus of the individual will be to assist the Mill Supervisor and to produce a quality product. The Roller on the shift is considered the lead go-to person for the Rolling Mill setup, operation, and continued monitoring. This position is one of largest responsibilities and requires fortitude, knowledge, and confidence to perform in a satisfactory manner. The Roller knows the condition of the mill throughout his shift and sets the mill up to run the most tons possible for his shift and well into the next shift. This requires planning, foresight, time management, communication, adaptability, and continued learning. Training for this role may require some travel to observe the process at our other mills such as Mesa, AZ or Seguin, TX. Successful candidates will have a strong safety mindset and a desire to learn. This position works on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, which involves rotation between day and night shifts and overtime.
