Job Description and Overview
As a Boiler Room Technician you will work in the fast-paced San Francisco Technical Operation Facilities department. The Boiler Room Technician plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. Operates, maintains, and inspects automatic gas fired high pressure steam or high temperature hot water boilers
Adjusts, maintains and tests boiler and mechanical, electrical or pneumatic control instruments and safety devices
Tests boiler water, cooling tower and water from other systems, and takes any necessary corrective action, such as adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits
Make all necessary adjustments to keep correct water treatment parameters
Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work
Monitor and inspect equipment, energy management computer, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety devices, and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions, and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely
Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents

Boiler Room Technicians must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions
Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority
Technicians may bid for schedules several times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority
Boiler Room Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)
Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract
New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment
There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues
Must have a high school diploma/GED or education equivalent
Twelve months experience required as a Boiler operator or stationary engineer
Must be at least 18 years of age

Boiler Room / Solvent Recovery Operator

The Boiler Room / Solvent Recovery Operator is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining the boiler and solvent recovery systems to keep them in safe operating condition at all times. This includes boilers and their support equipment, solvent recovery from press to the adsorbers, water treatment equipment (boilers and cooling towers), chillers, pumps, air compressors, low pressure air blowers, vacuum pumps, and the fire suppression system
Perform skilled mechanical maintenance work for a variety of systems with the primary responsibility being for boiler and solvent recovery systems. To contribute to the overall success of the department the operator will need to perform the following duties as well as others that are deemed necessary to maintain the operation. The position requires the operator to be able to perform the job responsibilities safety, efficiently, in accordance with DNR and EPA guidelines and regulations, and with minimal supervision.
Boiler operation: Operate, adjust, shutdown and start-up equipment without supervision
Perform water testing and chemical treatment for boilers and cooling towers
Repair pumps & piping, repack valves and replace seals
Keep equipment logs up to date
Operate, maintain and control plant HPA, LPA and vacuum equipment
Operate, maintain and control solvent recovery systems
Generate reports for the EPA
Operate and control the chilled water for plant chiller operation
Monitor the fire protection system for the facility
Perform daily inspections and maintenance of equipment

Boiler mechanic perform the duties and functions of Plant Maintainer may inspect, maintain, repair and/or tend equipment used in heating, ventilating, refrigeration, air conditioning and related mechanical systems inspect and read meters, gauges and other controls of operating equipment may tend and/or operate stoker equipment, boilers and incinerator furnaces related equipment, except that where equipment requires a New York City high pressure boiler or refrigeration mechanic operator's license.
The Ideal candidate will have High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of:
- Three (3) years of experience in the lubrication, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment required OR
- One and a half years experience as described before plus graduation from an approved trade, technical or vocational high school or completion of an approved internship program OR
- One year experience as described before plus an associates degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology.
Candidates that have a Vocational Training Certificate, Courses in blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, or related training experience are highly desired. The following licenses are also required:
- FDNY COF –G95 torch license
- FDNY VCOF-F60 Fireguard license

Boiler Room And Utilities Operator
The Boiler Room and Utilities Operator maintains all primary facility utilities including purified water systems, high-pressure boilers, pumps, compressors, driers, generators, vacuum pumps, blowers and a chilled water plant. The High Pressure Boiler Operator at Cooper Tire operates, serves and maintains power equipment and systems. This includes such items as boilers, compressors, pumps and turbines. The operator is also responsible for checks of condensate systems throughout the plant.

Boiler Technician & General Maintenance
This is a year-round, full time position
Repairs and maintains boilers, heating, fans, pumps, HVAC, and electrical equipment throughout the Snowbird Village.
Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility
Repairs refrigeration, heating, and electrical equipment.
Repairs or replaces compressors, electric motors for condenser and evaporative coils, boilers, fans, pumps and HVAC equipment.
Determines problem and proper type of repair.
Welds metals in order to form or repair necessary equipment.
Proficiency in variety of equipment
Demonstrating progress in learned tasks. Orders parts and prepares requisitions for replacement parts and supplies as necessary.
Researches pricing information in catalogue and prepares requisitions and delivers to supervisor. Checks in parts with purchasing to verify that it is the correct part ordered.
Maintains inventory of replacement parts and hardware. Counts inventory and orders necessary equipment monthly.
Assist Plumber repair. Repair or replace faulty plumbing (i.e. hot water systems, drain lines, sewer lines, etc.) Assists Electrician with electrical repairs and refrigeration.
Performs regular preventative maintenance on all equipment. Reviews, services and repairs all necessary parts.
May fabricate replacement parts and/or perform various welding tasks as assigned. Uses a torch and various equipment to fabricate equipment
Cooperation/willingness to serve where needed to best of abilities. Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements
Preferred Journeyman level training or equivalency in a college degree.

Must be a journeyman level licensed technician and be trained in one of the following trades: Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, Boiler or HVAC.
Occasional supervision of apprentices or helpers in performing maintenance duties.
Must be at least 21 years of age with clean driving records.

Decisions may be made within broad policy parameters and procedural guidelines where there may be more than one correct solution and where guidelines may need interpretation. Must be familiar with the safe and proper use of equipment, tools, power tools, cleaning supplies and chemicals used by the department. Responsible for proper care and maintenance of all refrigeration, heating, electrical equipment and plumbing systems throughout Snowbird Village.
Responsible for the proper use and secure storage of tools and equipment. Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory counts of an inventory worth $3,000. Responsible for a truck worth $10,000.
Working Hours: General working hours from 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional overtime as needed. Nighttime, weekend and holiday shifts as needed and specified.
Work requires rotating on call status, emergency call out, some overtime and extended hours. Also a rotating swing shift may be required.
Travel to and from Snowbird. Must travel occasionally to Salt Lake valley to pick up parts for emergencies. Travel between lodges and various areas of Snowbird.
Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
Job activities consist of related steps, processes or methods. Decisions are made from various choices available.
Requires the ability to discern between simple situations and apply alternatives. Actions are taken according to basic criteria, such a sources of information, type of transactions, or other factual differences.
