Shipfitter (Boilermaker) apprentices are first assigned to the Welding School for instruction in shielded metal arc tacking. After qualifying, the student begins a curriculum based rotation through various production areas to hone his/her skill.
The Boilermaker program is a 3 year program designed to provide the essential foundation for several courses which include Blueprint reading, Mathematics, Modern Steel Shipbuilding, General Shipfitting Practices, Fundamentals of Drafting and Structural Quality. Students will engage in various methods of cutting, heating and burning as it applies to hand held torches as well as automated cutting heating, cutting and beveling processes. Safe operating procedures are emphasized as students learn to cut and shape steel plating and layout using mathematical functions.
Students also identify and use various measuring devices in metric and standard format as it relates to the ship's frame, hull and superstructure. Students also learn Shipyard terminology, related tools, equipment and process to perform the basic tasks while building their knowledge of Ingalls Shipyard Industry.

- Assembles boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels according to blueprint specifications, using power tools and hand tools Reads blueprint to determine location and relationship of parts. Connects fire tubes to heads or water tubes to drums and headers of boilers, by expanding and belling ends, using tube expander and beading ends, using power hammer. Drills and taps holes for installation of studs, using portable drill. Tightens bolts to assemble frames, using hand or power wrenches. Mounts casings of water tube boilers, or attaches davit heads, burners, or furnace casing to fire tube boilers, using wrenches. Bolts or screws accessories, such as man-holes, hand-holes, fans, gauges, and valves to vessel, using hand tools or power wrenches. Replaces defective parts or piping, using power wrenches, prying bars, or hand tools. May install and repair refractory brick or furnace tile. May thread and install pipe, using pipe wrench and dies. May remove and replace insulation and caulk seams to repair insulation on shells, piping, boiler fire-sides or structures. May cut out defective parts, boiler tubes or tube ends using acetylene torch.

ESSENTIAL Job Functions (fundamental job duties):
Is aware of and conforms to all company safety rules and regulations to the maintenance group.
Develops P.M. procedures for all in plant equipment and administers those procedures.
Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery.
Repair and maintain physical structure of establishment.
Welding equipment as needed.
Must be able to operate a fork truck; work with a full respirator; lift 50 pounds up to 100 times per day without assistance; read, understand and apply information from blueprints, maintenance and technical manuals to maintain existing equipment.
Administers the preventive maintenance program tasks.
This position is responsible for the overall accomplishment of facility and production corrective and preventative maintenance activities; procurement and inventory of maintenance shop items; and coordination of repair activities and services from outside vendors. Employee also installs, maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures and pipe and electrical systems in manufacturing establishments. This position must be skilled in the following area: mechanical, electrical, HVAC.

CF Industries has many exciting and challenging opportunities at its world class production facility in Yazoo City Mississippi. Employees in this maintenance crew perform pipefitting and welding duties in the maintenance shop and in the field at various elevations to maintain, repair or replace equipment in a chemical manufacturing facility.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams and schematics for installation specifications.
Maintains equipment (pumps, turbines, compressors, piping, etc) to precisely stated specifications. Rebuilds and/or fabricates parts and performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Performs work inside vessels and tanks.
Performs plumbing repairs and pipe replacement, insulation repair and replacement. Performs sandblasting and painting duties. Must be able to perform boilermaker duties.
Performs repairs using hand tools such as relief valve and gate valve replacements. Operates forklifts and man lifts. Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing and lifting.
SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENTS WILL HAVE: High School Diploma or GED required. Academic degree or Trade school certification in Industrial Maintenance preferred.
Minimum of 5 years as pipefitter/welder. Must be able to perform TIG and shielded metal arc welding on high pressure stainless steel and carbon steel process piping per ASME Code. Must pass welding test on GMAQ and SMAW according to R Stamp Procedure.
Possess proficient computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment. The incumbent will combine the use of technical skills, analytical thinking and problem solving skills along with effective organizational, time management and communications skills to maintain, fabricate, repair and/or replacing physical equipment and/or making necessary repairs to machinery and the work area in a safe manner that promotes the health and well-being of the individual and the environment using CF Standards and Specifications, and industry best practices. Must be available to work call-outs, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Chemours currently has an opening for a Maintenance Mechanic at our Memphis facility. The site is located 10 miles north of downtown Memphis. The Memphis Plant Maintenance Mechanic accomplishes, with a minimum of supervision, a wide variety of maintenance assignments. This is a day shift position during hours that will accommodate full interface time with business unit maintenance and planning and scheduling (currently 7:45am to 4:15 pm). Assist in the implementation and improvement of effective preventive maintenance programs for all equipment, performing scheduled maintenance on facilities and production equipment as required.
Interpret single line diagrams, piping schematics and mechanical drawings
Troubleshoot and dismantle defective machines/equipment and installs new or repaired equipment or parts.
Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery.

Boilermaker needs to be experienced and have his hands on certification.
Construct, assemble, maintain, and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries. Align structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame tanks or vats, following blueprints. Work involves use of hand and power tools, plumb bobs, levels, wedges, dogs, or turnbuckles. Assist in testing assembled vessels. Engages in the direct cleaning of boilers and boiler furnaces. Inspect and repair boiler fittings, such as safety valves, regulators, automatic-control mechanisms, water columns, and auxiliary machines. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.
Examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, or vats to locate defects, such as leaks, weak spots, or defective sections, so that they can be repaired.
Bolt or arc welds pressure vessel structures and parts together, using wrenches or welding equipment.
Inspect assembled vessels or individual components, such as tubes, fittings, valves, controls, or auxiliary mechanisms, to locate any defects.
Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts, such as safety valves or regulators, using torches, jacks, caulking hammers, power saws, threading dies, welding equipment, or metalworking machinery.
Attach rigging and signal crane or hoist operators to lift heavy frame and plate sections or other parts into place.
Bell, bead with power hammers, or weld pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leakproof joints.
Lay out plate, sheet steel, or other heavy metal and locate and mark bending and cutting lines, using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments or templates.
Install manholes, handholes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, or feedwater connections in drums of water tube boilers, using hand tools.
Study blueprints to determine locations, relationships, or dimensions of parts.
Straighten or reshape bent pressure vessel plates or structure parts, using hammers, jacks, or torches.
Shape seams, joints, or irregular edges of pressure vessel sections or structural parts to attain specified fit of parts, using cutting torches, hammers, files, or metalworking machines.
Position, align, and secure structural parts or related assemblies to boiler frames, tanks, or vats of pressure vessels, following blueprints.
Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on boiler foundations, following blueprints and using straightedges, squares, transits, or measuring instruments.
Shape or fabricate parts, such as stacks, uptakes, or chutes, to adapt pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or piping to premises, using heavy-metalworking machines such as brakes, rolls, or drill presses.
Clean pressure vessel equipment, using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents.
Install refractory bricks or other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels.
Assemble large vessels in an on-site fabrication shop prior to installation to ensure proper fit. Supervisory Responsibilities
May directly supervises 1 to 5 boiler maker helpers in the Operations Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Austin Industrial’s policies & procedures and applicable laws.
