Completely and independently set up, operate, adjust, etc., assigned boring machines (DeVlieg) to rough out and finish machine to quality requirements and specifications any assigned boring requiring the coordination of hole tolerances in more than two planes and surfaces.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Use any and all precision measuring instruments, gages, tools, etc., necessary to set up machines and/or check machined parts for finish and dimensions.
Select and secure proper tools, fixtures, machine attachments, equipment, etc., to expeditiously accomplish assigned work, and as required, devise and make precision checking fixtures to check own work.
Work with and interpret charts, table, blueprints, handbook formulas, sketches, verbal orders, job layouts, etc., and use shop mathematics including trigonometry.
Do own layout for assigned work.
Perform any bench work necessary to finish parts to required quality specifications.
Sequence own work operations.
Responsible for full utilization of machine capacities and minimizing the amounts of machining and numbers of setups.
Grind own tools.
Use and adjust feed of oils and coolants.
Perform any milling and reaming operation that may be accomplished on boring mills.
Detect faulty tools and replace same.

Independently operate a Kuraki horizontal boring bar milling machine in a precision metal cutting environment
Set up new fixtures and change overs for parts using dial indicators
Perform inspections using precision measuring equipment and verifying conformance of parts
Read, interpret blueprints, job orders, tooling instructions and customer specifications invovling dimensions and tolerances
Deburring machined parts
Adjusting tooling in machine program using G & M codes and the ability to write G & M codes
Set up, maintain, and change all associated tooling and set TLO's and utilization of tools associated with fixtures and programming
Make adjustments based off of inspection reports and measurements
Hand loading tools as programs require
Complete change over using dial indicators and edge finders and making minor offset adjustments
Identify continuous improvement opportunities to reduce cost and improve product quality and machine efficiency
Complete and maintain appropriate documentation records, creating tool and set up sheets for programs
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Comply with all OSHA regulations, report safety issues and use proper PPE and safe procedures in overhead crane operation
Work independently within timed deadlines
Effectively work with Engineering dept. to prove out new programs and parts, adjusting programs when needed
Program, write and edit own programs using Feature Cam
Associate degree or higher in CNC machining or like field and a minimum of 5-10 years experience in an industrial CNC machining environment operating and setting up vertical and horizontal milling machines with fixtures and tooling
Experience in set up and operation of a Boring Bar Horizontal Milling Machine (Kuraki preferred)
Proficient blueprint reading and interpretation skills
Proficient math skills specifically with fractions and decimals
High mechanical aplitude and good physical dexterity
Proficient in using inspection equipment to confirm part quality and cutting and adjusting bores to blueprint specs

Under the direction of the Machine Shop Supervisor, the mechanic takes rough forgings and plate and transforms them into machined tube sheets, flanges and covers. These completed units are used later in the process to produce bolting flanges and closures on shell and tube heat exchangers.

$21.00/HR + $1.50 shift/$1.60 weekend differential
