Visually inspects the unit before passing to the next cell. Works safely and ensures best quality products within current times. Fully engages with team and other associates to troubleshoot problems and drive continuous improvement in the plant.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Mounts compressor, condenser, and other components in specified locations on frames, using hand and power tools
Applies solder along adjoining edges of work pieces to solder joints, using soldering irons, gas torches, or electric-ultrasonic equipment
Adjusts electric current and timing cycles of resistance on induction brazing machine to heat metals to bonding temperature
Selects torch tips, flux, and brazing alloys from work station instructions and/or Sequence of Events (SOE) or work orders.
Applies knowledge of metallurgy to determine best method to accomplish quality braze (brass, copper, steel) and performs all job duties within ISO standards using required safety procedures and equipment in accordance with company policies and practices.
High school diploma or GED
Knowledge and understanding of lean manufacturing practices alongside experience using small hand and power tools is preferred
Ability to read, interpret and follow wiring diagrams and blueprints as shown in SOE. Ability to read and differentiate part numbers, labels and work instructions
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Exposed to potential hazards including pinch points, fall hazards, chemical exposure and general safety issues associated with manufacturing. Works in hot, cold, dusty, elevated and noisy area
Manufacturing Experience is a plus

Heat Treated And Brazing Furnace Operator
Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets.
We are seeking a Heat Treating and Brazing Furnace Operator for our Canoga Park, CA facility to work either the 1st or 2nd shift. This is a Union position.
Set up and operation of Heat treating and controlled atmospheric brazing furnaces to braze rocket engine thrust chambers and other assemblies where vacuum, explosive and/or inert gas atmospheres are used in production.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
Plan brazing and/or heat treat operations of developmental, prototype and production assemblies in controlled atmospheric brazing furnaces where explosive and inert gasses are used in the atmospheres.
Set power and temperature controls, gas flow panels and instrumentation for electric or gas fired furnaces. Adjust switches on temperature control instruments for multiple cycle brazing. Load assemblies on furnace base and make hookups of thermocouples and pressure lines as required.
Operate auxiliary power equipment to unload furnaces and cool down with cooling muffles. Perform heat treating and/or brazing operation as required.
Operate furnace to heat treat and/or braze assemblies including leak check and purge, instrumentation, heat-up, braze and cool down. Take action when emergency conditions arise during phases of operations to assure safety of personnel and equipment. Over-ride furnace controls by manual operation when necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in heat treating and brazing operations.
Demonstrated experience working with and around hazardous chemicals including acids.
Must have a proven safety record and experience with PPE used with hazardous chemicals.
Experience handling large (500 lbs +) complex hardware with tooling and other handling devices (ie: pallet jacks, cranes, lifting straps, etc).
Experience reading, comprehending and using planning and drawings to meet required specification requirements.
Experience using measurement instruments to ensure parts are set-up and indicated properly to meet requirements.
Must carry or obtain applicable certifications to work in an environmentally controlled room.
Must pass the written and practical exam required for Heat Treated and Brazing Furnace Operator.

Work Environment and Physical
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner.
While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas.
Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
Assistant Scholar/Scientist, Atmospheric Science
The Florida Space Institute (FSI) invites applications for a non-tenure earning position as assistant scholar/scientist with a concentration in atmospheric science. The incumbent will participate in Global‐scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) science team activities. Specifically, the incumbent will develop capabilities to identify and analyze the contributions of waves and tides from the mesosphere (Earth's middle atmosphere) to temperature and composition changes in the lower thermosphere (Earth's upper atmosphere) and publish results from GOLD data relating to those effects.
Position Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Space Physics or Atmospheric Sciences or equivalent from an accredited institution, and one year of postdoctoral experience in atmospheric science related to thermosphere, ionosphere, or magnetosphere studies.
Experience with studies of dynamics in the middle to upper atmosphere; two or more years of postdoctoral experience in atmospheric science related to thermosphere, ionosphere, or magnetosphere studies; expertise with remote sensing technologies; expertise with LIDAR technology and science; and expertise with satellite instrumentation.
Due to the nature of the research performed, U.S. citizenship and the ability to attain security clearance is beneficial, but not required.
This is a full-time, 12-month position supported by contracts and grants funding (C&G) and is contingent upon available funding.

To perform critical assembly line and sub assembly brazing operations on air conditioning units and associated equipment.
Read and understand Operational Method Sheets (OMS) job instructions, handles material to and from work station.
Performs critical brazing operations that require extreme care such as closeness of components and tubing being brazed.
Maintains proper heating techniques that allow the flow of filler materials in upward, horizontal, and downward directions.
Determines needed material preparation, filler metal and flux for variations in materials, adjusts torch flame and tips for critical brazing operations.
Monitor and fill liquid flux equipment and storage containers, using JCI-Wichita's established methods.
Inspects each part upon completion of brazing process.
Performs own rework, reports material shortages and 5S standards sustained at green level are requirements of all work areas.
Overtime is required to meet production demands and can include Saturdays and Sundays when necessary.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Must attend and pass the Johnson Controls Manufacturing Training and Safety class.
Requires successful completion of brazing qualifying class and testing, in accordance to Johnson Controls Manufacturing standards.

Understands existing electric and oxy – fuel melter designs and operating criteria. Leads effort to improve melting functionality and furnace life with cost justified investments.
Drives for standardization in all melting designs across Owens Corning Insulation and Foamglas.
Willing to learn / develop improved melting solutions for Mineral Wool plants.
Participates in the scope development and execution of all furnace rebuild projects to ensure safety, performance, schedule and cost goals are met.
Provides process leadership via contact with equipment suppliers to understand the development of new refractories, controls and complete designs for furnace rebuilds.
Leverages external engineering alliance partners to deliver design packages.
Bachelor's Degree in Material Science or Mechanical Engineering is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
5-8+ years of experience within glass melting design and operations, preferably in fiberglass
Desire to expand project experience within a furnace design area is beneficial for career growth
