Coutside Winery is hiring for General Winery Workers to engage in support tasks related to the winemaking process. Participates in the care, maintenance, and sanitation of all facility equipment and adheres to all safety procedures, support quality and GMP standards.
What You Will Do:
Supports the Central Coast operation of winery equipment in bottling and the cellar (bottling machines, pumps, presses, etc.).
Performs basic sanitation tasks.
Performs tank washing, line and equipment sanitation, including confined space entry.
Ensures all additions to juice or wine are made accurately, per the work orders.
Completes red and white juice racking or product movement activities
Conducts red fermentation processes per the SOP's and the daily fermentation log.
Participates in performing barrel fills, barrel topping, barrel SO2 addition, barrel ingredient additions and barrel out and back duties.
Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.
What You Will Need:
High School Diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate or one year of work experience.
Required to be 18 years of age or older.
Required to be physically capable of executing any job tasks within the bottling room or cellar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Cellar Duties (95%):
Barrels: transport, wash, fill, empty, top, identify accurately on work order
Sanitize tanks, hoses, press, pumps, and crush equipment
Inspect, measure partial tanks, gas headspaces
Follow Safety Procedures: Confined Space, tank entry, fall protection, respiratory, slips and falls
Measure, weigh, and make additions of chemicals
Clean floors with the pressure washer
Clean tanks, walls & crush equipment
Operate pumps, hoses, barrel steamer, barrel washer, ozone machine, crush equipment
Evaluate fruit quality on the sorting table
Check oxygen levels in tanks
Pump over and punch down fermenting tanks
Removal of pomace from fermentation tanks
Laboratory Duties (5%):
Obtain samples requested from production staff
Experimental monitoring and report
Take samples of grapes, juice or wine as requested from bins, barrels, tanks, or bottles.

Cellar Worker Lead
Wente Vineyards is seeking a Cellar Lead to join our Greenfield, Monterey County Winery Operations Team. This position will be responsible for developing and overseeing Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) compliance for the Arroyo Seco juice plant and wine storage facilities. Responsibilities include identifying areas of improvement, completing repairs and improvements, staying current on FSMA compliance initiatives and ensuring the facility meets and exceeds these standards.
In addition to compliance initiatives, the selected candidate will be responsible for executing various daily cellar operational duties including: racking, pumping, clarifying and blending of juice and wine. Sanitation and sterilization of equipment and work areas. During crush, operates crusher and presses, move hoses and equipment, obtain lab samples, weigh trucks, dispose of lees and clean equipment. Handles shipping and receiving of tanker trucks. Checks temperature of tanks during fermentation, stabilization and storage. Responsible for leading and training contract labor, as needed.
This position will be based in Greenfield (Monterey), CA and require 50% travel to Livermore, CA initially and then 20% travel on an ongoing basis.
Manage the revitalization of the Arroyo Seco juice plant
Gain understanding of FSMA compliance requirements, ensuring the facility meets or exceeds.
Research, provide cost estimates and make recommendations for FSMA compliance initiatives and facility improvements to Director of Cellar Operations and Cellarmaster.
Perform repairs and preventative maintenance; develop a clean and LEAN process driven facility
Work with contractors and suppliers on securing work estimates; oversee contracted work to ensure standards are met.
Research and understand Monterey County regulations related to winery operations; attend regulatory meetings with outside agencies.

Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for all winery related processes and systems
Monitor daily activity at the juice plant and track wine related activities

Fill and empty tanks and barrels and perform related cellar operational duties
Perform chemical additions
Operation of heavy mechanical, cellar and harvest equipment including but not limited to forklifts, crushers, presses and centrifuges

Position Summary: Performs all routine cellar winemaking activities in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety policies to ensure maximum productivity and efficiently and the high quality of all wines produced.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs all work activities in the cellar, including but not limited to running all equipment such as pumps, filters, gassing devices, tank presses, forklifts and mixers.
Carries out proper sanitation techniques for cleaning, sanitizing and storing all winery equipment as well as for the operational set-ups for all routine winery work such as wine and juice transfers, filtrations and preparations.
Recognizes and reports off aromas in barrels and tanks.
Carries out specialized functions in the cellar during harvest, including but not limited to, additions to fermenting barrels and tanks, work with ML cultures, and barrel filling and/or emptying.
Properly and accurately completes work orders and other tracking documentation.
Follows standard operating procedures in the performance of all cellar activities to ensure maximum productivity and wine quality objectives are achieved.
Adheres to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to timely and accurate reporting of all work related injuries and illnesses to the supervisor, promoting safety awareness to co-workers, advising the supervisor of any unsafe acts and conditions, wearing required personal protective equipment and following confined space protocol where necessary.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
Working conditions in certain areas of the winery can be cold, wet, slipper and noisy.

OSU Brewery Intern
The OSU Brewery intern is responsible for performing all tasks related to brewery work and being part of a busy McMenamins property. That means the ideal candidate is a diligent worker with strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to be flexible and patient when dealing with front of house staff and customers. This position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, filling and delivering property keg orders, cleaning kegs, cleaning the brewery, general cleaning, and kegging and canning beer. The Brewery intern will also be required to gain aptitude in cellar tasks like monitoring fermentation, tank cleaning and CIP, dry-hopping, cropping yeast, carbonating beer, and other critical beer-related jobs. This intern position must be able to work safely and be able to complete tasks with or without supervision.
