We are looking for a Bridge Inspector who has Maryland/Dc/Virginia experience in bridge inspection/condition assessment. The candidate needs to perform field inspection on highway & railroad bridges, culverts, sign structures, and high-masts to detect any structural deficiencies and/or safety hazards by ensuring that structures conform to safety regulations, and bridge engineering specifications. Scope of work also includes review previous reports, updated CADD drawings, create new inspection reports in accordance to the respective bridge owner’s standard and requirement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect bridge top of deck elements for any defects and sign of deterioration.
- Inspect underdeck and bridge soffits/fascia for spalling, loose concrete, and deterioration.
- Inspects steel girders for deterioration, section losses, cracking, buckling, and distortion.
- Inspects bolts and rivets at joints of floor beams, stringers, and panel points to ensure they are securely fastened.
- Inspects concrete girders for deterioration, exposed rebar, loose concrete, and cracking.
- Measures and collect under-clearance between bridges and roads and/or railroad tracks below to ensure sufficient clearance for passage of vehicles.
- Inspects drainage systems to detect obstructions.
- Inspects piles, posts, fender systems, and timbers to determine if decayed, split, or crooked.
- Inspects inside of confined spaces which are considered part of the structure.
- Observes condition of guide rails and other safety features on and/or leading to the bridge.
- Determines need for repainting structures to prevent rust or excessive weathering.
- Provide Maintenance and Contract recommendations.
- Prepares inspection reports of findings, noting location and type of structure, defect, and extent of damage.
