This position is located in the UNICOR Furniture Factory at a federal correctional facility. UNICOR is a government cooperation which employs inmates in manufacturing and producing a variety of goods and services for sale to other government agencies.
A primary purpose of this position is to train and supervise inmates in the manufacturing of plastic laminate and wood furniture and other products of various styles and designs. The duties of the position include manufacture and assembly of case good word furniture, including desks, bookcases, wardrobe lockers, lamps, credenzas, desk trays and tables.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

The Extrusion Machine Operator will operate, troubleshoot, repair and perform minor maintenance of the extrusion equipment that processes polypropylene pellets into log form. You will understand both the product construction and the machine operation to maximize yields and machine uptime.
You will work shifts that are 12-hours long, 4am-4pm, on a rotating week schedule.
As the Extrusion Machine Operator, you will:
Observe all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) rules, including housekeeping practices
Participate in EHS meetings, investigations, and audits
Proactively communicate and address safety concerns
Set-up and monitor machine operations according to standard operating instructions
Understand department safety, quality and regulatory requirements, and production goals; actively engage in meeting these goals
Inspect raw materials and products to ensure there are no visual defects; take corrective action as needed
Perform checks to ensure accuracy per product specifications, ensure overall product quality, and tracks in manual logs or computer system to capture deviations and quality traceability data
Perform material disposition on all work-in-processes (WIP) parts as assigned
Perform advanced machine adjustments to ensure that proper construction specifications are being met
Interrupt machine operation as necessary to correct operating problems
Minimize the production of products that do not meet specifications by quickly taking action and using investigative, troubleshooting, and mechanical skills

The CNC 1 operates CNC machine/manufacturing processes in a safe and organized manner, under moderate supervision/monitoring and performs other assembly and fabrication operations in close quarters with other cell members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for all activities associated with running a Flexo or Rotary Die Cutter including: setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.
Sets up and runs the Load Former, feeding the machine
Reviews job tickets, print cards, and quality inspection paperwork with machine Captain
Sets up and operates the pre-feeder.
Reads job order and mounts specified rubber print plate and printing dies on cylinder.
Installs cylinder on shaft, and secures assembly in bed of press.
Fills dye fonts with prescribed inks or dyes.
Moves levers to engage dye rolls, adjusting position of cylinder to print two or more colors without overlapping or smearing previously printed area.
Starts press, adjusting speed, tension, and alignment of printing plate as necessary.
Cuts sample of printed material from end of printed roll and inspects for imperfections, such as blurred or off-center impressions.
Cleans rubber plate, cylinder, and dye fonts, using solvent, and lubricates press as needed, using grease gun.
May mix inks or dyes to produce desired colors.
Sets up rails, print, and die cut section on machinery accurately in accordance with proper setup techniques.
Inspects all dies before and after run to ensure that any necessary repairs are made before the next run.
Ensures all bolts for cutting dies are in place and tightly secured.
Monitor box quality, including, but not limited to, loose liner, warp, correct size, and print.
Checks anilox rolls for damage.
Maximizes the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
Cross trains and assist Helpers, Stackers, and Bundlers with job duties on the machine.
Cross-train on other machines.
Completes necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data,
Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data. Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
Must be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
Switches duties with stacker as necessary.
Complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.

The Machine Technician/Operator is a multi-functional position whose main role is to provide the technical resources needed to maintain production flow on the production line or cell and throughout the Cost Center.

The Production Lead Operator is responsible for the supervision of Custom Film production lines. Must know Custom film basics, troubleshooting, extruder drives, heaters and controls.
Constantly follows quality and production and makes the necessary decisions to maintain maximum rates with high quality in an efficient time and manner. Helps to maintain the shift safety and training programs to minimize accidents and injuries and to ensure a safe working environment. Review production orders and complies with the work order. Must meet production, quality and quantity standards on all lines.
Assures proper set ups and quality checks. Organizes work for smooth operations. Constantly follows quality and production and makes the necessary decisions to maintain maximum rates with high quality on efficient time and manner.
Assists in training packers on how to do quality checks, gauge, length, width and weight and does follows-up on production to make sure product is being produced to specifications and documents paperwork. Helps make necessary adjustments and settings to equipment. Can operate all aspects involved in a start-up, process control blending system, recalibration and control panel, printing press and bag separator and can take a line down properly.
Must be able to troubleshoot the majority of problems on extrusion, bag machines, seal bar units and winders. Helps to implement training programs for packers to learn the components of extrusion, bag machines and how these components work together to make sheeting and bags. Must know resin system and the various resins used for their application and in what capacity.
Inspect the finished products for quality problems and takes corrective action to resolve problems. Notifies Supervisor of equipment and maintenance problems; advises of quality problems. Assists packers and Operators when their lines go down or there is a manufacturing problem.
Moves equipment in and out of manufacturing area for production changeovers with a pallet jack or forklift. Replaces broken or worn out hand equipment and makes sure the packers have all of their PPE available and in use. Must be willing to work twelve-hour shifts and overtime when needed.
Complies with housekeeping rules, ensuring a clean and orderly plant at all times. Has a main focus on safety, quality, production rates, and problem areas affecting the process.
- OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS;
Reads work orders and check production reports on the lines. Verbally communicates with Supervisor and other co-workers on production needs and process.
- HEALTH AND SAFETY;
Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Berry's guidelines. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards, employee's safety, adherence to policies and maintains a clean work environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent or five years of extrusion film manufacturing experience. Good mechanical background a plus. Have valid Berry forklift license.
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
Ability to do functional math; i.e. adding, subtracting, multiplying and division. Ability to use a handheld calculator to figure percentage formulas and out-put yield.
Must be able to calculate the density of the blend and percentage of layer thickness with micrometers. Accurately read a tape measure.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must be able to keep up with moderate speed production machines winders, bag machines, printing presses, extruders, blenders and pumps.
Manual dexterity required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue. The employee continuously uses their arms, hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, grip and squeeze. The employee routinely bends and lifts up to 65 pounds over a twelve (12) hour shift, kneels, squats, pulls and drags sheets of plastic, rearranges and organizes products/materials, climbs/descends stairs into/from the tower areas 50 to 75 feet in the air and pushes a broom to clean the production floor.
The employee stands approximately 10 hours and frequently walks the production area to locate materials, check supplies, locate pallets and offer assistance where needed. The employee routinely steps up 1 ½ feet and pulls themselves into the seat of a forklift. Operation of forklift and lifting equipment are essential to job responsibilities.

This a full time vacation relief position and will be responsible to learn to operate a variety of mechanized bakery production equipment including but not limited to the Oven, Divider, Proofer, Slicer, Bagger and Wrapper. Check and ensure product specification standards are being met as required by company authorized standards while performing the tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Key Job Responsibilities: Loading and unloading pans from production line
Loading and unloading oven and/or proof box
Monitor and adjust the temperature controls of the Oven and Proof RoomOperate and control packaging equipment
Ensure proper bags and sealing if necessary for each variety Ensure proper slicing if applicable
Verify weights and order completions
Record information such as down time, waste, order completions, package verification, metal detector checks, finish product scoring etc.Monitor for foreign material all the time especially at change over and ensure metal detection checks
Ensure proper placement of product in trays and pallets
Remove finished packaged items from the machine and separate rejected items
Taking appropriate action to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the food safety and food quality system
Responsible for reporting and taking necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring
Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan, the Food Quality Plan, and any other programs that support the SQF system and other 3rd party audits
