This position is located in the Federal Prison Industries within UNICOR, at a Federal Correctional Institution. The incumbent of this position primarily serves as a supervisor of an inmate detail engaged in the maintenance and repair of various types of textile equipment and machinery used to produce any type of sewing product or any type of product made from fabric.
The incumbent is responsible for the quality of work under his/her supervision by assuring economical and efficient accomplishment of assignments as mandated by contract and specific product orders.Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Precision Machine Tool Mechanic - Machine Maintenance
Safely work with minimal supervision on precision machine tools in an industrial environment. Independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and evaluate machine malfunctions. Perform repairs, modifications, and overhaul of lathes, mills, multi-axis mill-turn, broaches, precision grinders, numerical control machines. Repair, renew, and/or replace bearings, shafts, gears, and reassemble, and functionally test precision machine tools. Level, lay, scrape, and flake beds and ways to exacting and coordinated tolerances. Fit and scrape bearings; assemble gear trains and fit to exacting tolerances and align spindles, columns, ways, etc. Perform Preventative Maintenance on machines.

The official title for these Machine Operator positions are called REWINDER OPERATOR and AUTO BAGGING OPERATOR.
These are technical positions and a candidate must have some machine operating experience, as well as manufacturing experience to be considered. An ideal candidate is someone mechanically inclined with solid work experience, good attendance, and desire to grow their career with us.
Our Chesapeake Plant runs 24 hours a day, five days per week. Our current openings are on 2nd and 3rd shift. Second shift hours are Monday – Friday, 2:45pm – 11:15pm and third shift hours are Sunday
