Senior Calibration Technician - Field Service - Laboratory Instruments

Calibration Technicians are responsible for the competent performance and timely completion of standard operating procedures related to pipette calibration, repair and/or validation testing. Calibration Techs are required to meet with management on a yearly basis for a re-training, and be available for a bi-annual MANDATORY staff meeting. Calibration Technician (For Inspection Measuring Gages) - 1St Shift
Moeller Aerospace is a manufacturing facility specializing in precision-machined parts for the gas turbine aircraft engine and power generation industries. Our headquarters is located in Wixom, Michigan and is responsible for all customer support including design, engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and customer shipments.
Due to our continued and ongoing growth, Moeller Aerospace has open positions for experienced Calibration Technicians. The position requires 3 years minimum of previous experience in the repair, calibration and maintenance of mechanical and dimensional measuring & test equipment (M not electronic gages). Responsible for the daily operation of the assigned calibration area to provide timely and accurate service to its internal customers and service providers.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:
1. Apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate measuring and test equipment to ensure measurement accuracy.
2. Identify and precisely follow established calibration procedures, and accurately record results. Follow and maintain calibration procedures and appropriate laboratory practices in accordance with Command Media and ISO requirements.
3. Capable of using high precision measuring equipment and scientific instruments to calibrate, verify, adjust and repair M&TE. Typical M&TE includes, but is not limited to: alignment telescopes, autocollimators, theodolites, dial and digital calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, dial indicators, bore gages, plug gages, optical flats, surface plates, hardness testing machines, thread gages, torque wrenches and v block sets.
4. Adapt equipment, standards, and procedures to accomplish unique measurements.
5. Must be meticulous when documenting results and maintaining records pertinent to the calibration process.
6. Determine salvageability of broken, damaged or inoperable M&TE. Review the status of M&TE in various departments and determine the applicability of each piece of equipment to current testing requirements and the laboratory standards as required. Make recommendations as to the purchase, for calibration purposes, of additional apparatus and equipment suggesting substitutions where practical. Specify type of equipment where specialized or particular types of test data are critical. Make recommendations as to disposal of obsolete M&TE.

Job-Related Skills/Background: • Ability to work on assignments which may complex in nature, in which independent action and a high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations. • Work areas may include confined and/or high spaces, laboratory environments and general office space. • Position requires the use of various personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, face masks, respirators, gloves and safety goggles, when handling hazardous materials or working with high voltage equipment. • Ability to meet additional requirements (e.g., standing for extended periods, varying temperatures, moving heavy materials, wearing necessary PPE, performing shift/OT work, etc.), as necessary. • Color vision (red, green, and blue), and depth perception are necessary to effectively and safely use tools and machinery. • Conduct deviation investigations, gathering data on equipment/facility problems and implementing lean and 6-sigma tools, such as DMAIC, 5 whys, FMEA, cause & effect diagrams, and document results in reports, in order to identify the cause of the problem. • Ensure compliance and readiness for internal and external inspections and provide adequate support to inspected departments. • Develop, author and modify departmental LSOP’s as needed in support of daily operations and implement improvement initiatives within primary area of responsibility. • Support internal, external global and regulatory agency audits as subject matter expert within primary area of responsibility. • Assist with the organization, preparation and presentation of Technical Services topics during internal and third party audits. • Promote Safety within the Team. Provide positive reinforcement for good practice and escalate issues that require attention or improvement. • Provide timely escalation of complex and difficult problem solving issues to cross-functional teams for investigation. • Compliance to good documentation practices and “right the first time”. • Escalate issues that could present a cGxP noncompliance or an unsafe work environment. • Maintains and performs corrective and preventative maintenance calibrations on GxP & non-GxP equipment. • Use established internal procedures as well as industry standards, manufacturer procedures, etc. for the proper calibration and troubleshooting. • Complete required documentation to certify the verification and calibration per cGxP requirements. • Provides recommendations for instrumentation / metrology spare parts. • Assist in the management calibration activities during facility shutdowns. • Supports other departments to troubleshoot, test, repair and optimize instruments, equipment and control systems. • Participates in the continuous improvement efforts within the site Calibration & Measures Program. • Assists in the maintenance and review of calibration standards and vendor calibration documentation. Process vendor calibration related documents. • Increase calibration / metrology competency at site level, of which training is an important. • Will have the ability to prioritize and flexibility to adapt to changing business schedules and deadlines. • Will have the ability to take initiative and work proactively with creative problem solving skills. • Perform data entry into calibration management (SAP) database. • Detailed recording or work performed in equipment log books. • Schedules work with equipment owners to minimize equipment downtime. • Perform other duties consistent with skills and training as assigned by C&M Supervisor. • Perform calibration on a wide variety of instruments following documented procedures per cGMP (current good manufacturing practices) requirements. • Write reports (deviations, out-of-tolerance, corrective action). • Perform temperature mapping, HEPA filter certification and air flow data collection. • Perform troubleshooting of instruments through previous training and experience, the use of equipment manuals, email or phone conversations with manufacturer. • Initiate and close out work orders accurately and on-time; adhere to a strict calibration schedule. • Identifies system anomalies including configurations that are not in compliance with policies/specifications • Able to follow all maintenance safety practices including Lock Out/Tag Out procedures and Risk Analysis prior to starting the maintenance tasks and adhere to GSK safety programs. • Oversee contractors and other vendors that schedule work during or after normal business hours. • Possess a work ethic that includes neatness, punctuality, thoroughness and accuracy. • Make adjustments to equipment within validated parameters to increase line or equipment efficiency. • Report any part or equipment stock-outs to Supervisor for investigation of root cause.
