The Carbide Die Maker layout and plans sequence of operations for fabrication and assembly of carbide dies. Troubleshoots setup heading parts and performs reworking of dies; Process methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans the sequence of operations, fabrication assembly and layout of all types and sizes of carbide dies from tool drawings, written and verbal instructions.
Layout, set up, and fabricates all sizes of dies of irregular contours using tool room equipment such as engine lathes, surface grinders, O.D. grinder, tool and cutter grinder honing machines.
Makes carbide reamers or diamond materials and steel configuration laps for cutting and machining dies to tolerance of .0001/.0002.
Performs immediate turnaround of carbide dies that need to be reworked in-process and during the operator setup.
Load and unload items from production machines manually or by using hand tools.
Checks own work using comparator, inside hole gauges, test pins and other inspection equipment.
Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
Mark or tag identification on parts.
Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
Able to identify, perform and troubleshoot tooling operations in manufacturing for improved quality and tooling life.
May represent Factory/Department manufacturing on cross-functional teams, safety committees or other in-house committees.
Able to assist and train others in carbide die making operations and techniques as needed.
Reports any safety violation, machining equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to supervisor.
Report any malfunctioning equipment to leads or immediate supervisors.

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Working experience in fastener manufacturing environment.
Advance knowledge and experience in carbide die making.
Working knowledge with quality procedures.
A minimum of 5 years equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, use precision inspection instruments, and set up and operate all tool room machinery.

Manufacture boron carbide capsules, including powder blending and loading operations
Setup and operation of various automatic, semi-automatic or handheld equipment including but not limited to deburring, loading, drilling, and polishing operations
Be responsible for setting up and operating conventional and numerically controlled machine tools that require high skill to set up and operate. Required to machine multiple types of metals. Will be required to perform tasks using numerous hand tools, grinders, and polishing equipment
Be responsible for interpreting engineering drawings and change notices, blueprints, sketches, and method sheets of complicated parts. Required to meet manufacturing and quality standards
Be responsible for checking work during various machining stages with complex measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, gages, scales, etc. Require perform precise indicating on parts where total indicated runout (TIR) is important to the machining of the part
Be responsible for maintaining records, log books, charts and initiating electronic or manual reports when required. Must be able to read, interpret and follow complicated drawings.
May be required on a temporary basis, to train operators to use certain equipment which the individual is qualified to run.
Require to deburr parts when necessary
Be responsible for keeping facilities, material and work area orderly exercising care in their use, maintaining good housekeeping practices and conforming to all safety and quality requirements. May perform minor maintenance on machines
Set up, operate, and maintain boron carbide machine equipment. Maintain, alter, adjust, make minor repairs to boron carbide equipment. Manufacture boron carbide capsules for Control Rods, including mixing powder, determining density and testing capsules for pull strength
Be responsible for annealing, autoclaving, and nitriding parts to process equipment instructions and monitor furnace to insure a quality part and proper equipment maintenance.
Require test cleaning solutions for specific gravity, alkalinity concentration (titration) and adjust bath as required to bring them into specification
- 2 - year Degree from an accredited machinist training program that includes CNC Machining (OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience in set-up and operations of the following (CNC) computer numerically controlled machining processes: drilling, milling, grinding, and turning
Ability and willingness to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and drawings
Ability and willingness to manually lift moderately heavy parts on occasion (50-60 lbs.) for short duration
