Inserter Assistant - Production (40871)
The Inserter Assistant assists the Inserter Operator by participating in make-ready processes and by sorting mail pieces to prepare them for mailing. The Inserter Assistant should learn to operate the inserter equipment. They could operate the equipment during the peak production period.
1.Performs quality checks and monitors control numbers during the take-out process by inspecting the pieces, mailing addresses, and z records to verify that all numbers are accounted for and to ensure high quality of the mail pieces.
2.Sorts mail pieces at the inserters according to postal specifications to ensure that all mail meets USPS regulations prior to being mailed.
3.Assists the Inserter Operator by verifying the components, tracking damaged mail pieces, completing applicable paper work, and by unpacking materials to provide support to the Operator and to learn the job functions of the Inserter Operator position. Assists in hand inserting projects as needed.
4.Prepares for jobs by stocking the work area with needed materials, specifications, and tray/bag tags from the designated areas to ensure the work station is equipped for the correct mail sort.
5.Assists the Inserter Operator to prepare the inserter for run time.
6.Cleans work area to maintain safe and organized environment.

The Lincoln Journal Star Packaging department has openings for a part-time Seasonal Inserter. The successful candidate will be able to feed printed material into a inserting machine, jog and palletize products onto pallets, operate manual pallet jacks while helping to maintain a clean and safe production area. We work hard to maintain a team oriented professional environment.
This position will be required to work depending on work load and production requirements. Average hours will be about 35-40 hours a week. This is a temporary position with potential for a permanent role in the future. Applicants chosen would work a set shift/schedule from now until January 11, 2019. This position performs machine set-up to accommodate mailing features, which include folding, bar code scanning, etc. The Operator is responsible for 3-digit presorting. Weighs items before stuffing, sets postage rate on machine to ensure envelopes are metered. Hand stuffs jobs that automated equipment cannot accommodate due to size, weight or are too timely to set up. As required, maintains mail volume logs for the zip sorting company. The position may also perform the duties of Mail Processor, which involves the sorting batching, and delivery of corporate mail. The Operator performs several functions relative to out going mail.
In accordance with established procedures, operates equipment which stuffs documents such as checks, Explanation of Benefits (EOB's), personalized claim forms, Marketing materials, Membership and Billing direct and group bills, all Group Health billing statements and ID cards, etc., into envelopes for mailing.
Performs machine set up to accommodate mailing features which include three and five digit presorting, folding, bar code scanning, etc. Weighs items before stuffing, sets postage rate on machine to ensure envelopes will be metered during inserting process as needed, periodically operates off-line high capacity folder/scorer/perforator and table top jogger.
Hand stuffs jobs that the inserting equipment cannot accommodate due to size, weight or are low volume jobs in which set up time exceeds actual run time. As necessary, pre-stuffs envelopes for check disbursements which are delivered to Payroll for stuffing of checks to subscribers and providers. As required, maintains mail volume logs for the zip sorting company and US Postal Service.
Performs duties of Mail Processor. In accordance with established procedures relative to unrestricted mail, opens, sorts, batches and delivers to respective departments. Sorts and delivers restricted mail to person or departments designated.
Makes in-house scheduled or special pickup of mail, packages and materials and processes and otherwise prepares for dispatch by U.S. mail, parcel post, UPS, etc. As required weighs, determines classification postage and operates postage machines. Assists with mass mailings by operation of folding, stuffing and sealing and other processing machines.
Performs duties of Truck Driver position. Loads and unloads material for delivery and pickup of mail from the Post Office.
Performs duties of Output Processor position. Reviews and quality checks printed material to be inserted, mailed or otherwise distributed. Processes post production pull request and release jobs for inserting per established procedure.
Is alert to safety and housekeeping in the mail room area, and is responsible for the cleanliness and routine maintenance of equipment. Is alert to errors, their prevention and correction, notifies supervisor of any special or unique situations encountered. As time and workload permits, provides assistance and back up to other members within the department. Promotes safety and good housekeeping standards within the work area and in relation to machines.
